'Turkey' Detains Illegal Immigrants
254 illegal migrants detained in Turkey Deutsche Welle December 18, 2006 Turkish police have detained 254 Somalis, Iraqis, Palestinians, Yemenites and Turks planning to emigrate illegally to Europe. The would-be migrants included 188 men, 34 women and 32 children. They had spent three days waiting in a seaside hotel restaurant in the southern resort town of Alanya. The group, which was bound for Germany via Italy by sea, was placed in a local sports centre and given medical care pending judicial action. Police have arrested around a dozen suspects including the hotel manager for their alleged involvement in the trafficking. [source]

It's happened similar to Morocco with Sub-Saharan immigrants trying to enter Spain through Morocco.
Countries like Turkey and Morocco can pay a prize for being seen as gateways into Europe for illegal immigrants from third countries.
