Eight US soldiers facing courts-martial Deutsche Welle October 18, 2006 The US Army is charging eight US soldiers with courts-martial for two incidents in the Iraqi war. Four troops will stand trial for murdering three Iraqi detainees during a May 9 raid on a suspected insurgent camp near Thar Thar Lake, southwest of Tikrit. Another four are accused of killing a raped girl and her family in the town of Mahmudiya. Two of those defendants could face the death penalty for the March 12 incident that they tried to cover up by making it look like a sectarian attack. In Iraq on Wednesday, the US military said 11 American soldiers were killed, bringing to 69 the number of US troops killed in October so far. [source]
