Spain called to assume its historical responsibility Polisario.blogspot.com (the Polisario Front representation from the Nordic countries) January 1, 2006 Bir Lehlu (liberated territories), 01/01/2006 (SPS) The President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, affirmed on Saturday to the President of the Spanish Government, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, that the Saharawi people "from Spain to assume its political responsibility towards the Western Sahara, within the framework of the international legality". In a letter he addressed to President Zapatero, on the occasion of the celebration of the New Year, the President of the Republic estimated that "the Saharawis expect from the Spanish State to assume its historical, moral and politic responsibilities towards the Saharawi people, resulting from the non implementation of the international legality in Western Sahara". He also considered that the Saharawi people, who are "decided more than ever to reinforce the bilateral relations on all levels" with the brotherly people of the Iberian peninsula, are also convinced "that Spain must, and can in presently and in the future, play a positive and crucial role in finishing the decolonisation process" of the non-self-governing territory, illegally occupied by Morocco since its military invasion in 1975. The Head of the State, however, stressed that the "only durable solution", to the conflict, "is the one that enable Saharawi people to exercise their legitimate and inalienable right to self-determination and independence, through a just and transparent referendum under the auspices of the United Nations, conforming to the international resolutions". Mr. Abdelaziz further hoped that any Spanish effort takes into consideration "the protection of our helpless citizens", who are peacefully demonstrating their rejection of the bloody colonisation of their territory, and who are submitted to "a brutal oppression in the occupied territories of Western Sahara". No. It is a call for Spain to fulfill her compromise with the Western Saharan people, and against the Moroccans.
Morocco sort of annexed Western Sahara in 1975 while General Franco was in dying, organizing a march of people towards W. Sahara. At the head of the march, known as the marcha verde (green march) there were Islamic flags and, guess.. one U.S. flag to remind the Spanish army that the U.S. was supporting the annexation of W. Sahara by Morocco. The march was "civilian", and so the Spanish army could not shoot on them although they knew that many were Moroccan military people disguised as civilians. But the Socialists, who vowed much for the Frente Polisario (W. Saharan liberation front) in the late 70s and early 80s, today have turned their back on them (well.. not really today, they did it already with González right after they came into office for the first time). Scum without honour, whose word is worth nothing.
