Invoking the name “Martin Luther King” and screaming “Black Power!” a gang of up to 30 black teens attacked four white girls in Marine Park in what police are saying is not a bias crime.

The March 30 attack was a hot topic at state Senator Marty Golden’s recent public safety forum.

According to witnesses and parents of the victims, four young girls from St. Edmund’s had the day off from school due to Easter recess. They were playing basketball during dismissal from nearby Marine Park Junior High School, when several Marine Park students demanded to use the court.

After adults intervened and asked them to wait their turn, the teens left - but returned in a pack of up to 30, both boys and girls, and stormed into the park.

Witnesses say the attackers were all black and called their victims “white crackers” during the bloody melee, which raged for almost 20 minutes.

“This is not being looked at as a bias crime,” NYPD Deputy Inspector Kevin McGinn said at the meeting.

“When I pulled my car up to the park, I witnessed a pandemonium I’ve never seen in my life,” said Debbie, a mother of one victim who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

Her daughter ran to the car, screaming, “They’re going to kill us,” Debbie recalled. My daughter was so scared and kids were running around like crazy.

Pursued by dozens of teens, some of the girls were “literally running into traffic to save their lives,” she said.

One girl made it as far as a nearby house, but was dragged by her hair back into the playground by a “wolf pack of children,” Debbie said.

The St. Edmund girls were bleeding and beaten to the point where they had cuts, scrapes, footprints and dirt all over them - and the attackers surrounded her car and started pounding on the windows as Debbie tried to herd the terrified children into her vehicle.

Two girls were hospitalized - one with a broken nose and one with a head injury, according to Edith, the mother of another girl.

According to Lt. Mark Molinari, from the 63rd Precinct, five of the assailants, who attend Marine Park Junior High School, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault. But since the attackers are all under the age of 16, they are facing charges in Family Court, and were arraigned last Friday.

“I always felt safe in the area and after hearing about such an incident, you start thinking what else could happen. These situations should not be happening, not in Marine Park, or anywhere else, and the safety of our kids should be of most importance,” said Denise Williams, a parent from Gerritsen Beach.

“It’s getting progressively worse in the community - these types of gangs are not only taking away our parks, they‚re ruining our neighborhoods,” said parent Cathy Miller.

“Nobody expects their child to go to a park and get beaten, with footprints on her head and arm, everyone just wants their child to be safe,” said Edith. “Everyone should have the right to be safe from teens, to small kids, to seniors, to mothers with strollers, no one should fear of being beaten while enjoying a day in the park.”

that's the problem with them, they never attack by themselves but only in large "packs", like wolves. Once a friend of mine, got into an arguement with one, and he said to the guy that if he had a problem to settle it right now but the black guy walked away.
2 days later, 4 blacks jumped him. Good thing I was around with another friend to stop them.

Blacks are more racist than anyone else in the US. I can't talk for other countries, and I doubt the situation is the same there but in the US blacks have their own untouchable culture, their own magazines, neighborhoods, music, clothes, stores, brands.. just about anything, and they're all named "Ebony", "Black Power", "Afro-style" etc. I can't imagine a magazine named "White power" or "Ivory", really. Not that I'd be thrilled about that, I would think it's equally stupid and pointless but just look at the inequality of the whole situation. It's a proud thing to do to say "black power" but it's racist to say "white power". It can't be that one is and the other is not; it's one or the other.

I was labelled a racist by a bunch of black ladies because I had an argument with one on the subway. They didn't even know each other but they teamed up against the evil white woman! One lady, not the one I argued with, was on the subway with her daughter and it wasn't an empty car. Her daughter was lying down all the way in one of the long seats with her head on her mother's lap, and she wasn't sick or anything, she was listening to music and talking to her mother. I was standing and all this 5 people seat is otherwise empty so I sort of made an attempt to sit but she wouldn't move. Anyway, my friend was already sitting down, with loads of bags and I sort of squeezed next to him with even more bags, in a most uncomfortable position. We started talking amongst us, not in English, and this other lady got pissed at me, guessing that we were talking about the situation and said "You could have said excuse me!!", so I replied, "I didn't think anyone would need an excuse me for such an obvious thing, and why should I excuse myself because someone else is thoughtless?" Anyway the lady (or rather the woman) was pissed and she started threatening me, calling me racist, a cracker ass and all sorts of charming names. She made a gesture as she was going to hit me on the head as she was leaving the train, but she didn't actually hit me. I thought it was the most stupid thing, this woman to gang up with the other one just because she was black too. No "white" person on the train "came to my rescue". Not that I'd expect such a thing, it would be equally silly, I think.

Things like this make me UNIMAGINABLY MAD. If I were to say "white power" I'd get slapped in the face but it's okay for a black person to scream "black power" and beat a white girl up? My father was stabbed when he was 17 by a gang of black people for, get this: BEING WHITE AND BOUNCING A BASKETBALL. I don't hate black people, but I hate the ones who act so damn savagely. I think we'll never truly be equal until all that Ebony, black power bullshit is stopped. It only adds to the situation.

May I also add a few years ago some of my friends (THREE OF THEM) were jumped by, once again, about THIRTY black kids. They followed them home, beating on them every step of the way, until a group of adults saved them.

Also I would like to say that no matter what you say to a black person it's "racism".

very true...but I would say out of the entire black population, about 4% are actually hard working people who are trying to make a difference for themselves. Blacks think they are discriminated, and sometimes it's true,a nd why? because of this type of crap they did.

I entirely agree with this, Strengthandhonour, because before I lived in the US I didn't have a bias against black people. Not at all, actually. When my cousin was studying in the US, my grandmother would always warn him not to get a black girlfriend -or god forbid a wife; and say things like "they smell", and I would actually get angry with her. I had watched the Cosby Show and to be honest that was what I had in mind. After I started living in New York, it took me about a month or so to get a bias, and it's entirely because how black people act like towards "others". They put the bias themselves, they mark their territory, they discriminate everyone else and then call "thief!" Like you said, I also met black people who don't limit themselves to their "black identity" and don't go around hating everything else, and they're perfectly fine people. The majority of the African-American population though are racists and would call you a racist if you moved a finger.

As far as blacks in my country are concerned: We never had slaves, the colonies had been given up over 80 years ago, we don't owe them a thing and they do not belong here. Same is true for swarthy, unemployed, illiterate Anatolians, by the way.

I actually agree with Pleg on this one. Though I don't think it's right to hate someone because they're "swarthy" (gee, I wonder why? ). However, it is right to hate people who are racist buffoons. I know lots of good, hardworking black people but I know plenty more who would stab you in the back in a heartbeat.

Very true. The blacks in America are very different from blacks in other parts of the world. The same happened to me, when I was young, I grew up mostly in good neighborhoods in Argentina and the US and I lived in Italy when I was younger and I never really got the chance to interact with many blacks. So I would just see them on tv and i coudlnt understand why they are not liked. Then you meet them, and your perspective changes right away..

It's not a matter of personal opinion for me, I couldn't care less if they are good or bad or the next nobel prize winners, I just want them out of my land.
Two years ago three blacks tried to rob me near a train station. Get this, I fight with them, one gets a serious beating, I get my face kicked but I manage to kick their asses, one of them runs to a cop who in the end, even knowing that I was the one being robbed, asked them if they wanted a drive to the hospital.
Back to topic, I think they should all go back to Africa, bunch of primitive monkeys.
