I don't really believe in prphecies, but even the next Pope is the last one I don't see that as being something catastrophical. We must look at the facts and those are that there are less and less Christians and more atheits. So Church crumbling into the dust wouldn't be anything strange anyway...though I don't like the thought...

This Pope fits exactly in the interpretation of San Malachia's prophecies, but the Pope after Benedict XVI is not the last Pope which will strike the end of times, but the last Pope on the list of San Malachia. The last Pope will be the reigning Pope during the Church's forthcoming turbulent times of great persecution. San Malachia speaks about the fall of Rome, not the end of times, although many people interpret it that way.

Probably because, among other things, you don't realize of the relevance of the persona that is going to be the spiritual guide of a considerable number of world's population, and Europe's population. Not to mention the weight of the Vatican in world affairs.
