It seems that mr Spitzer's demise came because he was about to hit the subprime sharks by reinstating an old law enacted after the 1929 crisis and abolished by Clinton to help again speculators.
Spitzer was extremely unpopular with the financial establishment because he had tried with other governors to force Bush to enact laws against "predatory lenders".
It must be noticed that the money he sued for paying prostitutes was his own.
