I laughed my ass off when I heard that. Chavez is really, really boring.

I'm no fan of King Juan Carlos, but he did right precisely because the Prime Minister, who was supposed to be doing the work, was doing nothing and worse he was being slapped as if he was a dummy by a macaco who, as it happens, is his accomplice in this circus.
Further, it should be reminded that when King Juan Carlos said "and why don't you shut up?", he was replying macaco Chávez for he was having his mouth full of demands of "respect" to Venezuela (in the classic leftist usage of such demands), while at the same time he was disrespecting PM Zapatero... which would have been alright with me had it not been the case that Zapatero was there representing Spain, whether we like that or not. So, the King's words should be read as "and [if you want respect] why don't you shut up [and show respect to others]?" It is advisable not to fall in the trap of cheering someone like Chávez beyond what's reasonable, only because some details that might be likeable. One should keep at an equilibrated distance, unless you want to become another Zapatero. Which is to say another pro-banana fool.

I moderately sympathise Chávez because he is standing up against the US power. But it seems to me that he - unfortunately - is not mentally fit for that task. He is so raw and uncouth, seems to be unacquainted even with the basics of the diplomatic norms of behaviour. Whenever something happens that is not to his liking, he starts crowing like a chachalaca. Not a behaviour that could be expected from a responsible statesman.
He has been in the last years both too much vilified and too much glorified. I take the middle position.

Anyway, how strong is the influence of the official Spain (be it Zapatero, Aznar or Juan Carlos, peperos or socialists) upon the Iberoamerican affairs?

Now, Chavez may reckon he’s Athuluapia, Lord of the Universe or whatever! If that’s the case, more the power to him. My interest in him lies solely in his ability to enrage the globalists. And in that he’s got a little niche going on there that I acknowledge as positive..As an aside it’s interesting that you ascribe a minimal theoretical legitimacy to your government. I have no such attachment to mine. The Dublin government are packed with the most contemptible creatures. At every level they invalidate themselves and I confer no more right upon them to represent Ireland, than I have the right to represent the people of Outer Mongolia. The more they wilfully injure the nation that I love, the more they can burn, in my book anyway.. |

There is nothing luxurious there. Being against globalization does not come through becoming a pro-bananist macaco.
This is similar to when people start sympathizing with Islam for reason which have nothing to do with Islam itself, but with rejection to other things, and before they realize they feel something stinging in the ass while trying to sit down and relax... and they discover that it is a minaret!

I can understand that people there are outraged by a company like Telefónica, a telecommunications giant, because of the tariffs that it applies. But macaco Chávez should keep his mouth shut before pointing to the Spanish people, because we have more reasons to be outraged by Telefónica's tariffs and, incidentally, it is with the money that Telefónica has sucked from Spaniards for decades that the infrastructure costs in those countries are being financed.

With regards to what you would like to perceive as Chávez's defense of his country, I have to say that you are much wrong with Chávez and that everything that will come out from Chávez's reign for Venezuela, in the long term, it will be misery. Chávez is not a patriot, but an egomaniac. A good example of the Indian oligarchs who the Spanish Conquistadors found in all of Central and South America, and who abused their own people.

Nor do I consider that they represent Croatia abroad in any way. The only thing that they represent is their fat asses.
