By the looks of it, it is being sent to a country far away that has no business with your own (like Iraq), while back at home you would not do the minimum effort to stop a full scale invasion that's destroying your own people.

Well, "statistics" like this are beyond pale and quite ridiculous. It is a kind of silly, but a frimly held, belief of the modern age that absolutely everything can be quantified, measured and expressed in numbers, even such utterly abstract and spiritual entities like "pride". And these opinion polls tend to be quite ludicrous. In the past I participated in carrying out some opinion polls and I know something about it.

The quantitative method is good and efficient in the natural sciences. It can lead to hypotheses and discoveries. But when applied to social sciences, to spiritual concepts, it can lead to erroneous conclusions and can be used as a tool of manipulation.

I think Americans were the first ones to start to apply this method of the natural sciences to the societal issues.

In modern English usage the word "nation" infact denotes "state".

United Nations (UN) infact means "united states" (not of America, but of the world, supposedly). Nationality means citizenship.

There is much confusion of words here at work.

Of course, originally nation, as used in most European languages and as most people from Stirpes understand it, means somthing completely different.

Maybe the usage of the word nation in modern English and its extension to other languages, is due to the influence of the American concept of nation, which is founded solely on constitution and allegiance to state? They have no nationalism, but just "constitutional patriotism".

Such concept of the nation is also originally French (cf. the Enlightenment and the 1789 Revolution).
