Seriously now, it's true that I have been quite shocked by the extent of the pro-American feelings in Albania. I knew that they were rather atlantist, but kissing Bush's hands...
Let's be fair though. Albania is not the only European country where Bush is a semi-god. Think of Poland, Romania, Baltic countries ... More or less the former Eastern block minus the Serbians and the Russians.

When Bush visited Slovakia several years ago, he was welcomed in similar way. People were chanting his name and the name of the USA.
But at least Slovaks didn't steal his watch.

Not so much as before. They are being pushed out of the business by new competition. I remember that as a kid (when it was still Yugoslavia) in my home town you basically couldn't find a privately owned bakery or pastry shop that wasn't held by Albanians. They were mainly economic immigrants from Kosovo.

Today the situation is diametrally the opposite. You can barely find one. Most of them were pushed out of the business, closed their shops and went back to from whence they came.

Few who got fairly rich stayed but they assimilated.

Calling him a clown and an idiot is an offense to clowns and idiots.

I think that he received such a welcom because his administration has benefitted Albania economically and with regard to Kosovo. While Croatia has had no benefit from good relations with the U.S.. Actually I think there's only one thing he ever said that might have benefite Croatia had he actually done it, I remember in the ;ast U.S. presidential election it was reported in the media that he would get rid of the ICTY- turned out to be a lie.
