I'm not a big fan of Charlemagne or the Franks in history. But I wouldn't do a statement any near to that one. Under such paganist ideas, without the Christian warriors like those in Catholic Spain or Orthodox Russia, others like Charlemagne (even if less so), or the Christendom in Vienna, Europe would have been subjugated by Islam.
It shows that we must be glad that Europe was Christian and not Pagan.

Eastern Germanics. It is not a small detail.
Most Eastern Germanic tribes at the time were Arianists. The Goths were and so were the Burgundians and the Vandals, who later tried to impose Arianism in Northern Africa. The Lombards/Longobards were too, but I'm not sure if they were an Eastern Germanic tribe, or Northern. The one Western Germanic tribe worth of mention --in my opinion-- were the Franks, who were Catholic. Arianists were overtly hostile to Catholicism while particularly friendly to Judaism. Their unitarist vision of Christianism is undoubtedly a key to understand the introduction of Islam in Hispania. Also, the Visigoths and the Franks were mutually worst sworn enemies. There exists an inherited continuity of this mentality in modern days Spain and France. It was the marriage of the Visigoth St. Hermenegildo (son of King Leovigildo) with a Catholic Frankish princess that marked a turning point for Arianism in Gothic Hispania. Hermenegildo rebelled against his father and was put to martyrdom for his Catholic faith. He was ordered killed by his own father while he was imprisoned, after refusing to take the comunion from the hands of an Arian bishop. In spite of this, King Leovigildo, who had achieved the territorial andn political unification of the Hispaniae, suggested to his other son Recaredo (Rekhared) that he converted to Catholicism to achieve the religious unification.

The reason why this website's conntents are so ridiculous is because the person who made it apart from being an extreme basque nationalist is an extreme Nordicist who usually frequents Skadi.net The funny thing is that the basques aren't predominantly nordics. |
