Interesting
:"It’s pretty common for folks around here to be able to say they have Cherokee blood. I’m not sure exactly why, but it seems to go back to the pioneering days. Most all that I know of is traced to one’s great-great-grandparent ( mother always it seems ultimately ) being half-Cherokee. So I take that to be right after the Trail of Tears (1838-1839) and right before the Civil War (1861-1865). It works out like.. my mother being born in 52 hers in 22 hers who knows when but say 00 and hers say 1875 and hers say 1850." Read more: Skadi Forum |

I'd thing it's probably the only Amerindian nation they know of. I mean if you were to ask an American the name of 1 indian nation it would be cherokee if your lucky. Mention Cherokee to him he'll probably think it's a Jeep, mention Apachee he'll think of helicopters, mention any indian grouping he won't know what your saying.

Seriously speaking now , since the day of the "American revolution more or less, maybe a bite before, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole were labelled by the american WASPs "The FiveCivilized Tribes" because they had adopted many of the colonists customs such as owning plantations and slaves. These tribes from the east of the Mississipi lived and interacted often together with the WASPs till the Indian Removal act (early 1830's) which ment the deportation of the five tribes to the "Indian Territory" which would became much more later the State of Oklahoma. But even after the removal act many of them keep their "WASPish" way of life and continued owning palnations and slaves even there in Oklahoma. The Cherokee tribe seems to be the one which most adopted the WASPish way of life, that is probably way many mixed americans claim to be partly Cherokee...The Cherokees even supported the Confederacy during War of Secession Five Civilized Tribes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Indian Removal Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

During the days of the worse Nordicism of Skadi, there was one American member of the Staff, a Nordicist himself, who took a DNA test and gave positive on Native American. Well, at least he now has a reason to claim a right on the land where he lives.

Anyway, in this other thread his petty excuse can be contrasted by the posts of this other Skadi freak, Appalachian: Skadi Forum Skadi Forum I would pick this comment: Quote:
"I don't mind slight Mongoloid/Amerindian influence too much. As I said once, I would even prefer it over a stronger dose of Med." Worth mentioning that he is been classified as Alpinid with slight [East] Mediterranid. And no, contrary to what one might think he is not American. ![]()

I think most Americans these days claim "Cherokee" blood or "Native" blood.
I find it positively amusing.

If I had to claim one for myself, I would pick Navajo.
