Here's an interesting monument in Geneva that I just stumbled on in my websearch for the Manchester statues;
The heroes of the Reformation Calvin, Beze, Knox, Farel memorial wall in Geneva ![]() Quote:
![]() Reformation Monument, Geneva The decision to include Cromwell was not without criticism, but one of the main proponents of the wall, Professor Borgeaud, insisted that he be included, describing Cromwell as 'Calvin with muscular strength'. His inclusion is for his heroic qualities regardless of the inaccuracy of portraying him as a Calvinist. As the Monument was built whilst most of Europe was engulfed by the First World War its significance may have been overlooked in England. The designer wanted to show a thoughtful Cromwell with a half open Bible, but those who wanted to stress the power of Cromwell's image won. He is shown in full armour with a mighty sword.
