I can't relate wooden houses with "homes". If it's not stone, there is a feeling of temporarity that doesn't make it a home.

What about this? A mount village of 10 houses built over 800 m² and 6,442 m² of land. Just 33 km from a sea village. They need refurbishing.

The price is high (300,000 euros), but that's just an effect of a housing market that's coming into a crisis. And the site that has it much overpriced. There is little doubt that you could bargain with them. But the best thing to do would be to jump over the middlemen and speak directly to the owner.

Materials for refurbishing and rebuilding (and adding additional floors) can be obtained from the surrounding terrain area.

Very nice, but not really cheap... Some house made by your own, whether out of wood or stone, it's always better than this.

If you look on the cheaper side you have to look inland, to regions like Aragon, Leon or even Castille. There are many abandoned or semi-abandoned villages, and if you gather a group of people you can get some help for a project of repopulation.

These are real rural areas with hard communication roads.

I agree with this. A real home has to be a cavern to me, not a tent or some sort Japanese paper-house.

I have this kind of project in my mind since 10 to 15 years already. By chance, the lands of my familial roots, being population réservoirs since centuries, are almost deserts now. Land would not be expensive.

Well, yes of course. But that's not the same as a wooden house. Those two pictures are Gascon houses, right?

I relate traditional wooden constructions more with additions where to store grain or keep farm animals.

Not Gascons, Champenoises. Still it's made of wood, cob and plaster. No stone.
