Valencia's new "Iberian Dame"
The new sculpture, La Dama Ibérica, by Valencian artist Manolo Valdés, is supposed to remind the by-passers of the ancient Iberian sculpture of La Dama de Elche (or d'Elx).
It is an 18 meter tall sculpture composed of 22,000 small pieces of cobalt blue ceramic, which is the same colour and material of the domes of traditional churches in the lands of Valencia. Each one of these 22,000 ceramic pieces is a 25 cm replication of the 18 meter sculpture. The final budget is of 2,482,780.35 euros, financed by the Townhall Corporation of Valencia together with two other private corporations. The artist, Manolo Valdés, has not received any money for his work as he considers it "a present" to his hometown. The original is a masterpiece, but the new one... only thing that makes me interested is the material. Other than that it doesn't even look like a finished piece to me. Where is her face?

It sounds crazy to pay 2,482,780.35 € for that thing. What a rip off. The whole job hardly justifies such an amount of money. Some people made easy money from this.

Why must everything today be reduced to oversimplistic forms that look like drafts of real works (and come in the most tasteless colors as well)?
The original is nice, though. What are these large rings for? To prevent the lady to look other men?
