Default Immigration to Mayotte video

I thought this video was interesting, but didn't know how to post it directly to the site. What do stirpes member from nations with small far off islands(ie mayotte, reunion, cayman islands, maybe even the Canary Islands...) think of them? Do you want to keep them, or do you find them too much of a hassle to keep up and protect? Do you really consider these countries to be a part of your nation, or do you see them as a foreign entity within your own government?

I personally don't consider that those Islands (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Mayotte...) are part of the French nation. Their history, people, habits are just too different.

In fact, such places only had the status of French colony before (Territoires d'Outre-Mer), just like the other foreign French colonies of Africa or Indochina. Their current status of French Department or Territory ("DOM" and "TOM") is only due to a law voted in March 1946.

As I'm not a colonialist or a nostalgic, I think it would be better for them and for us that the people of such islands get their independence.

The Canary Islands are not the same as the French DOM-TOM. The majority of the population is basically Spanish. However, while I was there for three months, I never got used to saying "going back to the Peninsula". Instead, subconsciously used to say "going back to Spain". Something that happens to other Peninsulars. So there is a substantial difference. In my opinion the Canary Islands should get a special status.
