Default Vojvodina Hungarians seeking for their own autonomy on Serbia soil

"NOVI SAD -- Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) leader Ištvan Pastor says that Hungarian parties in Serbia will continue to seek autonomy in Vojvodina.

Ištvan Pastor (FoNet, archive)

“Talk of territorial autonomy after the elections is as realistic a topic as it was before the elections, but it is an issue that has to some extent been satanized,” Pastor told internet magazine Vojvodina.

He rejected accusations of being an “ultra-right winger” as some media have labeled him because of his stance on territorial autonomy.

The SVM leader said that the issue of territorial autonomy for Hungarians was part of a broader picture, where this region would just be one of the regions of Serbia.

“It would be a multi-ethnic region, not a Hungarian region. Serbs and Croats live here, we all live here. This territorially autonomous region would have the same status as all other regions in Serbia, the only difference would be the territory itself,” Pastor insisted.

He said that he did not currently see the political will in Serbia for creating territorial autonomy, nor for Vojvodina’s full autonomy."

Does this mean another wave of secession of Serbia's teritories, when we all know that same situation happend in Kosovo and metohija, first they got autonomy and now we have "independent Kosovo"?! is it going to be "independent Vojvodina" and next "independent Sandzak(Rashka)"? Or wherever minorities live they have right for their own country?

It's strange how these developments co-exist with expansion of supranational bodies like EU and NATO. Even in Western Europe it's the same: Flanders/Wallonia in Belgium, devolution in UK.

Default Re: Vojvodina Hungarians seeking for their own autonomy on Serbia soil

Serbs contitute 65% of the regions 2 million people (over 70% if one counts the 400,000 refugees in Vojvodina), 60% of Hungarians live outside the municipalities these people talk about.

Not only that but this is just another example of terrible reporting by B-92, especially when one reads these two parts:

Quote:
He said that he did not currently see the political will in Serbia for creating territorial autonomy, nor for Vojvodina’s full autonomy."
He basically admits that the proposal will not happen.

Futerhermore, I've read about this proposal more. The proposal calls for some of the powers of the Vojvodina province to be controlled by the okrugs/municipalities in northern Serbia. In other words it is basically an attack on the autonomy of Vojvodina then it is on Serbia's territorial integrity.

This basically means that he wants a redrawing of okrug boundaries. The two maps below show the regions in Vojvodina and the municipalities the Hunagrians seek to be part of it.
