Chechens Blamed for Violence, Rape

VIENNA -- Austrian right-wing politician Joerg Haider called on Saturday for an immediate moratorium on granting asylum to immigrants from Chechnya, blaming some already in the alpine country for violence and sex crimes.

In a harshly worded statement, Haider -- the former leader of the far-right Freedom Party -- accused the Austrian government of carelessness in approving roughly 70 percent of all applications for asylum sought by people fleeing Chechnya.

Haider accused Chechen asylum seekers of "excessive violence" in the southern province of Carinthia, where he is governor, and blamed Chechens for a rise in rapes and other sexual assaults in the province of Upper Austria.

Chechens, Haider said, have "a heightened potential for violence" and should not be readily admitted into Austria.

He also took aim at Austrian authorities, citing what he contended is "the complete failure of Austria's Interior Ministry, which is responsible for Austrians' security."

Ministry officials were unavailable for comment over the weekend.

Haider said it was "incomprehensible" that Austria granted asylum to more than 2,000 Chechens last year. At the same time, he said, neighboring nations such as Slovenia did not approve a single application.

He said more Chechens were reaching Austria and applying for permission to stay now that European Union border controls have been dismantled along the country's borders with relative EU newcomer nations Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

Haider, who founded the somewhat more moderate Alliance for the Future of Austria in 2005, is best known for mocking Jews and praising some of Hitler's policies while he was at the helm of the Freedom Party.

It's about time, really. I wonder what kind of reputation do Chechen asylum seekers hold in let's say Finland or Estonia? I really doubt their behaviour pattern there differs much from what we can see in Russia or Austria.

Unfortunately, what Mr. Haider says is of no really interest any more and won't lead to real measures. He just wants to come up with a more popular message again, since his popularity is lower than ever for very good reasons if looking at this man's vita and actions in the last years.

While listening to the radio this morning, a police official reported that Albanians are the largest group of organized violent crime in Spain. Which is worse than it sounds if you consider that Albanians (included Albano-Kosovars) are not among the largest populations of immigrants here.

The only thing I can remember was a court trial on Haron Dikayev, leader of "Chechen maffia". He was sentenced and sits in jail still, I guess. It was some 10 years ago. If you think we have masses of Chechens here then you're wrong. Of course during the wars we felt for them because we feel for every small nation fighting for their freedom but nobody actually wants any sons of mountains to live next to us here. And of course you can't tell whether a guy is Chechen, Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani or what ever from that region if you meet them at street. Just part of Soviet time immigrants who of course don't have very good reputation.

Like ten times worse! Currently Chechens are flooding western and northern Europe (Austria, Norway, Belgium (?)).

While listening to the radio this morning, a police official reported that Albanians are the largest group of organized violent crime in Spain. Which is worse than it sounds if you consider that Albanians (included Albano-Kosovars) are not among the largest populations of immigrants here.

The situation can change very quickly if Chechens start immigrating to Spain, I can assure you (hope that wouldn't happen, I wouldn't wish that happen even to my worst enemy).

Good for you then. But actually, you don't have to have many thousands of them to start hearing 'Allahu Akbar!' at every corner. Events in the Karelian town of Kondopoga is such fresh an example.
I was in Estonia in different counties from Saaremaa and Pärnumaa to Ida-Virumaa on more than one occasion and virtual absence of immigrants from the Caucasus and Central Asia is pleasing to the eye after the slums of Moscow. I've seen a couple of Pakis on the market in Vanalinna in the capital and that was it for a 2 week-travel!

The Pakis must have been from Britain (stag parties, you know).

Once I had a taxidriver who was a Tajik. Spoke only Russian (and Tajik obviously) and started to complain about how bad his life was with wife and 10 children and Estonians were so bad to him and bla-bla-bla. He chose wrong guy to complain to, didn't get any money from me finally. If we are so bad and don't want to speak Russian with them we wish them safe journey to Dushanbe or Bishkek or whatever kishlaks they have there.

And they also just adore Russia, like dog adores his master. But we know also how Russians feel about them usually, I've seen some videos. So the life in here must be just paradise for a Tajik, you never get beaten, just nobody speaks to you very much.

Tajik (also Kyrgyz and similar nations) mentality is like 100% opposite to the mentality of Caucasians (Chechens being the extreme). At least, from my experience. And it's close to what you've described, indeed.

I wonder if such behaviour is something ethnical or caused by religion.
