Races of mankind - Calvin Kephart

I got hold of this book - Races of mankind by Calvin Kephart, published in 1961. Did any of you read it? It contains utterly ridiculous things, most prominently that the Basques were asiatics and a Basque railroad-construction foreman in Cuba experienced no great difficulty in understanding the indigenous workers since they too, being Amerinds, were originally Asiatic. He also states that the human evolved in Java and all the modern races of Homo sapiens evolved in India, the Negroids (compromising the kapoids, kongoids and austroloids which from india spread sideways in bot directions) being inferior (and he doesn't hide this sentiment at all) because of their difficult environmental conditions in the Ganges Valley.

Well, the problem with such people is that they mix true, proven things with absolute nonsense. Never heard of this author.

I'm sure that in Cuba, by the time they built the railroad, there was no one who spoke any Amerind language. Utter nonesense.

If I were you, I would ask for a refund.

If we would assume, just for one moment, that Basques would have met Amerindians and that the Basque language would be related, of the same language group, there is no way that the language could be after such a long separation close enough for understanding each other. Even if assuming a relation, whats, as Mynnyd pointed out, is total nonsense anyway, it wouldnt work...at least he had a great fantasy...

Cuba was totally stripped of natives some 500 years before there was any railroad.

btw. several years ago, a part Hungarian friend of mine and I were watching
some omnibus film with a part featuring Finns ( Aki Kaurismaki? )
anyway, he understood every 3rd or 5th word, and could understand every other Finnish sentence's meaning.
