Default "Hounding of Gypsies Contradicts Slovenia’s Image"

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/13/wo...rtner=homepage

^^ Here's some article from one American site.

Last month villagers of Ambrus somewhere in southern Slovenia drove the gypsies (who were staying illegaly on property of one Slovenian) out of their village, after gypsies brutally beat one villager who was in hospital.

Anyway, as usual "human rights" and pro-multicultural websites consider gypsies as victims.

I hope that other Slovenians will follow the villagers of Ambrus.

Slovenian version of the story
Quote:
Short story:

A Gypo hit one of our people (Slovenian) on a head with a wooden plank. People got angry and about 500 hundred of villagers attacked the Gypsies in their community, and drove them away in to the woods where the Gypsies camped for 5 day (until today). Today they said that they will go back in their homes, but then about 200 villagers waited for these Gypsies and didn't let them come in to thier (Gypsies) homes. So the police had to intervine and protect the Gypsies from the angry crowd. Of course the Gypsies from this village (Dečja vas) had numerous problems with the police including: gun owning, firing with weapons, beating, robbing, they even attacked the policemen onetime.

More information on gypsy problem in Slovenia.

Gypsies had to flee Ambrus and were moved to Postojna, in home for illegal immigrants where they were staying some time. Goverment decided they will move them to Ivančna Gorica, a small village near Ljubljana, but the locals protested and formed what they called "village guards" which were guarding villages 24 hours a day (the term 'village guard' - vaška straža - originates from WWII, they were anti-communists who guarded villages from communist revolution, later they formed colaboration unit Domobranci - 'home guards').

Goverment wanted to settle them back in Ambrus, but the locals formed 'village guards' too.

Here are some pics,

Gypsies

The "leader" of gypsy family said that he will burn the whole village and that he expects help from all Slovenia and also Croatia. It's one gypsy family with around 50 children.

After all this, they wanted to settle gypsies somewhere near Ljubljana, but the locals protested also.

Here's an article on gypsy problem written by Slovenian nationalist organization Hervardi,

It's in Slovenian language, but the pictures tell more than 1000 words.

Reply on that article by one Slovenian patriotic site... (written by an inhabitant of Ambrus)

Quote:
Ambrus
(English translation)

On November 2nd, 2006, I have sent the following letter to the editors of several Slovenian newspapers (Delo, Dnevnik, Vecer and Primorske novice, a special addition Ona and Mladina). But until now, I did not notice that the papers have published it - probably, because the letter was sent anonymously out of safety reasons. Or perhaps, because of my critical second sentence? For some reason, it was not chosen for publication - despite, that we live in a democratic state where everyone should be able to express their own opinion.

Please read, publish and forward!
Thank you for your understanding,

Our Misery in Ambrus

By now you have probably already heard the name of the village Ambrus in Dolenjska? I want to write this letter because of the extremely unprofessional Slovenian media, who had misrepresented the true picture of the actual problem with Roma people (earlier called gypsies) and their camp.

Deported Roma people were not only people living in the camp in Decja vas. In this Roma camp there was a constant coming and going of various 'civilians', many with criminal records. As this location is quite isolated, it served as an ideal place and asylum for all sorts of characters.

Therefore, the surrounding villagers had to continuously explain, that these people were not deported because of their nationality; which would be extremely unjustified! They had to move, because they were involved in increasing crime and kept covering it up. Crime was constantly on the rise, because the police station was far away.

The villagers took extreme measures, resulted from despair and fear that grew out of proportion. Forty years ago, when Roma people first arrived in Suha Krajina, we had to overcome and accept their trades, habits and other differences between Slovenian villagers and Roma people. But "the differences" with which these people today keep breaking our common laws, especially basic human rights, was never and will never be accepted by our local people. Over the years we had to put up with anything from petty theft of our farm produce and farm animals to other unlawful activities: breaking into properties, robbery, especially homes of elderly and isolated people were targeted, break-ins into local churches and presbyteries, road blockades with sharp stones and wooden logs studded with nails, theft of mobile phones, attacking single local people in the forest while searching for mushrooms, threatening passing cars with hand guns, enforced by verbal threats to kill or rape and general extortion; (last year police confiscated large quantity of arms and drugs). The recent attempt of murder on Joze Sinkovec was the second one in the last two years. All these awful experiences have changed our daily life.

The media has described the latest victim of this illegal camp as some sort of bullying the man, while the truth is completely different: He was only defending his vineyard cottage from well known thieves. Because he stood up to them, he became their target and was almost killed. They blockaded the main road with three cars in front and two more behind him. In this way he was caught in their middle at the mercy of Cmak and his Roma companions. Savage attack that followed is well known...

We became used to the fact that various farm produces constantly disappeared from our fields, but we cannot get used to the idea, that our lives are being threatened. To live in steady fear became very difficult for us. If you didn't experience it yourself, you cannot even imagine how it feels to drive on the road, while someone points a gun barrel at you. I have experienced such terror myself. Should I stop? Should I continue driving? Should I call the police? No, better not, they will stop me next time. They will know that I called the police.

Its unbelievable how fast the Slovenian police made an effort to protect and defend the camp and its occupants. I have to ask myself, where was the police when Joze was attacked. Who defended him? Who has defended our homes, cars, our fields and the life of the villagers? But to our Human Rights commissioner Mr. Hanzek nothing matters. Not only has he never been in Ambrus, but from far away, relying on unfounded and misleading information, he dares to grossly misinform the Slovenian public and the EU. Doesn't he recognise the difference between ethnic dispute and crime defence? You know, Mr. Hanzek, no Roma person was ever attacked or killed. Attacked was Joze Sinkovec from Ambrus. When we heard that they were ordered to move, we didn't feel victorious. No! We felt a great relief. That is why the national anthem resounded amongst us. Let each countryman of Suha Krajina finally feel free, "...who longs and works for that bright day, when no war, no strife shall hold its sway. Who longs to see that all men are free, no more shall foes, but neighbours be."

I can understand that life near Postojna does not suit the deported Roma people, as they don't have explored the territory yet, don't have "business" acquaintances there and other private information about people living there. The Media is more interested in the poultry that they left behind in the camp, rather than the health condition of the massacred Joze Sinkovec. I just hope that because of serious wounds to his head, Joze Sinkovec will not be left with permanent damage, if he will survive at all.

Dear readers, the story of Ambrus goes already for a couple of decades, not only for one week. During the last 12 years we had to battle for basic human rights and for peace. Peace we hope to obtain. Unfortunately, the battle continues. Joze battles for his life. Joze, hold on! We are with you! Hold on!

Anonymous Ambrusan (for own safety reason)
