I've always thought that "little" nations stood together more than big States. The UK is opposed to the Croatian candidature but wants Turkey to enter in the EU ; where are their European solidarity feelings?
Anyway I admire Croatia and other little nations like the Balt ones, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary, etc. 15 years ago they weren't independant (communist disctatorship sometimes in a bigger structure like Yugoslavia or the USSR) and now they are doing great.
