Oh my goodness, really!

It's the 7 year British high school plus the four year English-speaking university that did it for me, I'm sure. Even before I moved to the US I was done for.

ROFL Croatia just hosted World cup in alpine skiing on Sljeme near Zagreb on a new arranged locations...but that was also IMO a prodigious move, but at least it serves to the popularity:

Also not to forget, Croats have a multiple World champ in Alpine skiing, Janica Kostelić - unlike other states of ex-Yugoslavia, including Slovenia - an alpine country.

Right. So in that light it's really rather hard to see how it's a snobbish thing to go skiing. I mean, if no one was skiing, where would you get the champs? Stands to reason.

Anyway, I sort of understand what you mean, I was just sort of trying to figure it out. Even though Turkey has tons of mountains and people have been skiing for ages it's still somewhat of a bragging issue, especially if one goes to Chamonix, Avoriaz, St Moritz, Gstaad etc. Smart people have been going to Bulgaria and Slovenia for ages though, as they're much cheaper than France or Switzerland and the quality is no less. And they're neither as crowded.

Those people aren't sportsman characters, just a bunch of fat farts taking an expensive family trips to appear stylish, like Americans and West Euros going to Hawaii or Rio.
To become a professional skier one must show talent and practice since tender age, and this has nothing to do with it.

Allright Pandur, take it easy. I thought it was obvious that I was joking, what with all the smilies and stuff.

I'm not familiar in requiremants for the good skiing terrain so I'm most likely wrong, but It seems to me the Dinaric alps are too rocky and too vertical for these purposes.

As far as I know Croatia is not exactly famous for its skiing resorts and compared to Slovenia there are fewer options but there still are skiing options. I remember it from when my aunt and her family were going to skiing and my aunt also wanted to see Dubrovnik so they had looked for a resort in Croatia specifically, but there were more places in Slovenia and they had packages and stuff.

I don't think it makes me a snob though. Wasn't me, it was my aunt and her family.

Well since Gorski Kotar, Dalmatian hinterland and Lika are the pour regions, skiing tourism, along with rural tourism would certainly help.

Since we're at tourism, I think we should work more on the elite type of tourism. For instance, why not offering more of the most authentic products of Croatia to the tourists - such as Dalmatian 'Pršut' (a special smoked ham), or Slavonian 'Kulen' (a paprika flavored and smoked salami) or 'Štrukli' (similar to German 'Strudel')... stuff that foreigners haven't tasted before. I'm certain the farmers would also make a good profit out of it.

You're absolutely right. And I would put the prices very, very high so the people think that is something for the elite.

Something like:

Pršut - 1 kg - 200 euro
Kulen - 1 kg - 200 euro
Štrukli - portion - 50 euro (though it's seljacka food )
et caetera...

What do you think of that?
