Does anyone know the origin of the surname Kosakowsky?

Please let me know if you have any clue. This is very important to me.

Sounds Polish.
Kosak = Cossack? -owsky is just ending, could be also Kosakov (Russian), or Kosakevich (Belarusian), Kosachenko (Ukrainian).

Thanks. The spelling in English with "w" look more Polish. I guess Kosakovsky sounds more Russian than Kosakowsky. I should have said that he was a Russian. He was a general.
