He plays a Polish hetman who marries Kseniya Godunova, the daughter of the late Tzar Boris Godunov, and wants to become a Russian Tzar himself. His character is one of the most impressive in the film, and I did not notice there anything detrimental to Poles in general. It is Russians who are sometimes depicted in negative light. The acting is rather lame indeed, but the technical quality of the film is high and battle scenes are very naturalistic, brutal and impressive.

I liked it. It wasn't any masterpiece or anything but it was fine. Speaking of which, does anybody have (English?) subtitles for it? I've only watched it in Russian which I don't really speak yet.

i read that it was never intended to show the historical truth, but rather be patriotic fairy tale loosely based on the Anarchy Period |
