Perhaps the Scandinavians might be inclined to teach us some basics on their languages (Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, etc...) in a Survival Language thread....??? No??? Pretty please? Just the "Hello my name is...." " How are you" stuff....hum?

Cheers

Interesting idea

If there is interest, I'd be happy to translate some useful phrases. If we choose wisely, we could make a list of 10 phrases that would be all one needed during an entire vacation in Sweden

We'll start with an entirely fictional scenario:

Hello - Hej

How are you - Hur är det?

I am fine - Det är bra

or

I am not fine - Det är inte så bra

I don't care about how you are if I am to be honest. Where is the closest bar?

You're nuts! - Du är inte riktigt klok!

or

The bar is that way - Baren ligger där borta

Thank you - Tack så mycket

You're welcome - Varsågod

Have a nice day - Ha en bra dag

Anything else?

I don't know why there are so few of us. There aren't that many of us to begin with, and maybe most Scandinavians frequent Foras of various sorts in their own language. It's sad, since they are missing out on quite a lot.

I made a little advertisement for Stirpes on a Swedish Nationalist community though, so we can hope that the number will increase

I will contribute for some people.

Some things to ask a Swede on your next trip.

Hur gör man ost? - How does one make cheese?
Vems bli stal du? - Who's car did you steal?
Du har en stor näsa. - You have a big nose.
Vad irriterar dig så? - What's irritating you so much?
Älskar du mig? - Do you love me?
Tvättar du dig? - Do you wash yourself?
- One shouldn't drink less than six cups of coffee a day.

Last but not least.

Jag behöver hjälp! - I need help.

Default AW: What's about there?

Well, yes and no.

Some like Faroese and Icelandic are more different than the rest. A Norwegian friend of mine says that he can watch Swedish TV, and understand it, but harder so for Danish, he says. Something to do with the accents I think. The main ones are pretty much similar enough to where if you learn one the others wont be hard at all to learn either. They are differences in vocabulary, spelling, some grammar (i think), pronounciation, and the simple alphabet differences (norwegian and danish use Ø, where swedish use Ö, Icelandic uses different letters like Ð,Þ,Á,Ó,Í), etc.

Simple display of their similarity:
The Lord's Prayer

Danish

Vor Fader, du som er i Himlene!
Helliget vorde dit navn;
komme dit rige;
ske din vilje
på jorden, som den sker i Himmelen;
giv os i dag vort daglige brød;
og forlad os vor skyld,
som også vi forlader vore skyldnere;
og led os ikke ind i fristelse;
men fri os fra det onde;
Amen

Norwegian

Nynorsk
Fader vår, du som er i himmelen!
Lat namnet ditt helgast.
Lat riket ditt koma.
Lat viljen din råda på jorda
som i himmelen.
Gjev oss i dag vårt daglege brød.
Forlat oss vår skuld,
som vi òg forlet våre skuldmenn.
Før oss ikkje ut i freisting,
Amen.

Bokmål
Fader vår, du som er i himmelen!
La ditt navn holdes hellig.
La ditt rike komme.
La din vilje skje på jorden
som i himmelen.
Gi oss i dag vårt daglige brød.
Amen.

Icelandic
Faðir vor, þú sem er á himnum.
Helgist þitt nafn, til komi þitt ríki,
verði þinn vilji, svo á jörðu sem á himni.
Gef oss í dag vort daglegt brauð.
Fyrirgef oss vorar skuldir,
svo sem vér og fyrirgefum
vorum skuldunautum.

Now compare those with other Germanic languages:

German

Hochdeutsch
Unser Vater im Himmel,
dein Name werde geheiligt,
dein Reich komme,
dein Wille geschehe
Amen.

Alemannic (Elsässisch)
Unser Vàdder wo im Himmel isch
Heilig sei dinner Nàmme
Din Reich soll komme
Dinner Wille soll geschehn
Wie im Himmel au uf de Ard
unser däjlich Brot gib uns hit
un vergib uns unseri Schulde
wie mir au denne vergebe wo uns schuldig sinn
un loss uns nitt in Versuchung komme
àwwer màch uns frei von àllem wàs schlecht isch. Amen

Plattdeutsch
Unse Vader in'n Himmel!
Help du uns ock dorto, dat du gans unse Herr warst!
Din Will schall dörchstahn bi uns up de Eer
grad so as bi di in'n Himmel!
Giff uns vundag dat Brod, dat wi hüt nödi hebbt!
Un denn vergiff uns unse Schulden,
grad so as wi vergewen hebbt de Minschen,
de uns wat schülli sünd.
Un help dorto, dat wi nich to Fall kamt!
in Ewikeit. Amen

Dutch

Onze Vader in de hemel,
uw naam worde geheiligd,
uw koninkrijk kome,
uw wil geschiede,

Frisian

Us Heit yn 'e himel,
lit jo namme hillige wurde,
lit jo keninkryk komme,
Lit jo wil dien wurde
op ierde likegoed as yn 'e himel.
Jou ús hjoed ús deistich brea
en ferjou ús ús skulden
sa't wy ús skuldners ek ferjûn hawwe;
en lit ús net yn fersiking komme,
mar ferlos ús fan 'e kweade;
want jowes is it keninkryk
en de krêft
en de hearlikheid
oant yn ivichheid. Amen.

Old English
(11th century)
Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum;
Si þin nama gehalgod

gewurþe ðin willa

urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us todæg
and forgyf us ure gyltas
swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum
and ne gelæd þu us on costnunge
ac alys us of yfele soþlice.

Middle English

Oure fadir þat art in heuenes halwid be þi name;
þi reume or kyngdom come to be.
Be þi wille don in herþe as it is doun in heuene.
yeue to us today oure eche dayes bred.
And foryeue to us oure dettis þat is oure synnys as we foryeuen to oure dettouris þat is to men þat han synned in us.
And lede us not into temptacion but delyuere us from euyl.

Modern English

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done,
on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

danke Bruder!
With this exaple i think that it is better to start with swedish or norwegian but acctually i am confused with so many different variants.The runic alphabets are more easy hehe.
For now i try with a norwegian dictionary but it seems difficult.
Fortunatelly if we like something much is easy to study it more comfortable!!!
