Too Many Males: A Fast Lane to Extinction?

A new study suggests that having too many males of one species could lead to more sexual aggression toward females and ultimately the extinction of the species.

Researchers studying lizards have shown that an excess of males will cause populations to plummet as the survival and fertility of female lizards drop dramatically.

A more speculative connection is to sex ratios in humans.

In China planned birth programs and selective abortion have caused rapid changes in the sex ratio at birth. Since the early 1980s, males have far outnumbered females among newborns in China.

"Whether and how these populations will respond to increasingly male-biased sex ratios could depend on their ability to implement rules that protect females efficiently against sexual harassment," Le Galliard, the lead study author, said.

Researchers have argued that the sex ratio will rebalance itself because of so-called competitive feedbacks. A shortage of females will lead to a greater value being placed on daughters, causing male preference to decline.

This study suggests, however, that male aggression and increased competition for available females could make marriage less desirable for females, ultimately contributing to a fertility decline.

"Over the course of human history it is likely that male-biased sex ratios were common across societies," Tuljapurkar, the Stanford population biologist, said. "Perhaps conflict [killing men] provided a stabilizing mechanism against the sort of population trap discussed [in this paper]."

Actually China is not the only one in this case; indeed, India would suffer from the same symptom.

We shall see an army of single Asian males coming to our home to look after women in the years to come. (They'd have come anyway)

I recall reading a news in the early 80s about England's female population steep decrease. From what little I remember, the article argued than in a not far future (i.e. today) a large number of English males would have to either "import" females or live in celibacy.

Actually the invasion of the Asian males is already happening, and most of the events occur to the UK where a tradition of colonies has bought due to its legislation an Army of males. What is of interrest is the fact that the women in Britain still consider the Asians or Africans as more important sexually and socially and this should bring in consideration the state that the British males are...
Personally, I don't have problem with this considering britain since the only british that are interrested about the European future are already in Europe and they are not interrested to return to the British Paradise .

I think the biggest problem isn't asian influx into Europe, more the african/near eastern/middle-eastern and indian populations almost trying to colonize Europe.

Well Indians are Asians as well, Turkish too, as are ME peoples, etc. I find this term can be confusing. I'd have elaborated.

Anyway, for the moment Africans and ME peoples are the main threat, that's true, because they're numerously superiors to Mongolids. I also notice numerous Indians over here. But just wait your Chinese (or any other Mongolids) friends become more numerous in your own hometown f.e. and you'll see if they won't try to colonize your land. Mongolids are not the candide and pacific population we're told. Believe me, they're the opposite. I regard all Asian Mongolids as a bigger threat than even Africans and ME peoples for some obvious reasons.

PS: To me it's a real processus of invasion. They're not "almost trying", they are really doing it. That's clear in their mind.
