The traditions of the Irish people are the oldest of any race in Europe north and west of the Alps, and they themselves are the longest settled on their own soil - Edmund Curtis (A History of Ireland: From Earliest Times to 1922) The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth. For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish. - Edmund Spenser (writer, and British Government Official in Ireland, AD 1596). The renaissance began in Ireland seven hundred years before it was known in Italy. And Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, was at one time the metropolis of civilisation. - Arsene Darmesteter, Professor of Old French and Literature Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation. - Heinrich Zimmer, Professor of Celtic and Sanskrit, Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences |

I will ask Dr. Mabuse to clone a baby for me, as next year I will already be too old for a legal adoption.

Seriously. We have to carry them for nine months. Back breaking extra weight, curvature of the spine, morning sickness, constant cravings, swollen joints, mood swings, kicking babies.. did I mention constant cravings?
I'll have as many children that I can care for and love with all my heart. Which I hope is a lot. |

Not to forget the giving birth part, please. The main reason I am hesitant about having children is the giving birth bit. If only someone else would do it for me. Or maybe water birthing will get even more sophisticated by the time I decide to have children.

it's not a nightmare at all! it actually is the 40 weeks in your life when your body is going through the most wonderful experience you will ever have. seriously you will never feel as beautiful, as womanly, as good, as when you are pregnant. as for the birth - an no, mine was not considered some easy birth - it is rather painful, but it's forgotten as soon as you hold the baby in your arms. motherhood is not an easy task, it is a lifelong commitment. it is sometimes difficult, but the rewards far outweigh any problems with children. if what is putting you off children is the actual pregnancy, you seriously have it all wrong. the pregnancy is the best part. what you should consider are other factors, such as stability of the relationship with your partner and commitment to motherhood in general. and the above does not apply only to trinacria, in fact apologies to trinacria for using her quote. it goes out to all the women reading this. |
