What you are smelling is not any "moralist perspective from above", what you are smelling is just your own feeling of guilty conscience. You know that this will of "returning to innocence" is impossible and futile. Deeply in your mind you know neo-paganism and Gaia stuff are marketing and placebos. (Not joking this time) |

You have taken this to a very low level. Not just lowbrow, but also low in a completely different sense.

It is serious and respectable to be atheist, agnostic, cultural christian, catholic, reformed/protestant/lutheran, orthodox et al. But it is ridiculous to force yourself to believe in nature forces, to worship beasts, to dress like a krishna or to develop an absurd merge of new age scum (and these are EXAMPLES, I'm not defining you). It is a sort of "marketing spirituality" that casts with modern world cause it doesn't impose any efforts. It is just about feeling cool, feeling fine, feeling above the populace, and trying to return to the innocence of actual pagans. It is childish. |

I was raised Catholic, I don't consider myself catholic though.
Somewhere along the line, I just started questioning a lot of aspects of the church and figured I didn't believe in it. Then I had a "fling" with paganism but figured out I was just doing it more out of curiosity and not out of belief. I wanted to believe, but I didn't. This was when I was young and grew out of it. I consider myself somewhere along the lines of a pro-catholic agnostic. I was raised catholic and under catholic morals so for me to deny it has shaped my life in one way or another is plain silly.

Just by chance today I read something about Queen Kristina of Sweden. Hard to tell, some source (in Spanish) sounds neutral to her figure but the wikipedia article (in English) sounds like the work of fundamentalists.

Catholic, but a lot of relatives on my mother's side are high-church Anglicans.
