I would like to correct the producer of this thread with the fact that the Uniate Church does not mean an Ukrainian Church, but it is a Church created in the Austro-Hungarian Empire around 1700 in order to give the right to Orthodox people to equal opportunities in the Empire along with the other religions. So, you may find it in Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and perhaps in Serbia, too.

Yes it means borderland. However an alternative name for us has always been Ruthenia, which dates back to at least the time of Charlamenge. Ukraine first emerged during the Hetmanate to describe its position between the Catholic West and Orthodox East.
The main difference between the Orthodox and Catholic in Ukraine is basically one follows the Pope, the other doesnt. We both follow the same Eastern Christian rites.

Uniats (unijati) is name in Serbia for that.We follow old calendary,but many Orthodoh turned to new.Today is Serbian Orthodox St. Nikolas, celebrity of my family and I cheers all of you! Having of family celebration of some saint is not common for all Orthodox,it is customs of Serbs only.Difference between calendars is 13 days.

Well be careful when using the term Uniate, many Eastern Catholics are actually offended by the term.
