You scored as agnosticism.

You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics don't believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof). Agnosticism is a philosophy that God's existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.

No suprise with my results, especially with agnosticism coming in second. I pay more attention to Christian doctrines concerning social and political affairs rather than dabble endlessly in metaphysical issues.

Don't EVEN ask.

Quote:
You scored as Islam.
Your beliefs are most similar to those of Islam. Do more research on Islam and possibly consider taking the shahadah and officially becoming a Muslim, if you aren't already. Despite the actions of some - who go against the teachings of Islam - Islam is a religion of peace; the word "islam" means "peace through submission to God." "Muslim" means "one who submits to God." Islam is the third of the three Abrahamic faiths, and it shares much with Judaism in Christianity; its differences are the acceptance of Muhammad as the last and final prophet, and the oneness of God - in other words, that Jesus, though he was a revered prophet, was not in fact God, and only one God exists. Apparently the Taliban could not read (though their name means "students"), because the Qur'an states that men and women are equal as believers, and that all believers should be educated and seek knowledge. Modesty in dress and behavior is required in Islam for both men and women to preserve the values of society and move the emphasis from superificial appearance to intelligence, knowledge, and God.

Islam 83%
Hinduism 75%
agnosticism 75%
Judaism 67%
Buddhism 58%
atheism 58%
Satanism 38%
Paganism 33%
Christianity 0%
Well, realizing that even the stress of recent events could not fully account for this result, I went back to the test to see if I had misunderstood any questions. Sure enough, I had. I changed one answer and voilą!

Sufism? I'm impressed. That said, Sufism is so different from conventional/traditional Islam as you probably know as well. It is a very syncretic tradition, really.

Uh, gee... But seriously, I think I may have just confused the pattern matching algorithm used by the test. For example, I said that one should not require "proof" to believe in God, but also that the world would be a better place without religion. Many of my ideas don't seem to correspond to the standard patterns that such tests rely on....

As for Christianity per se, there are of course so many variations both in terms of doctrine and among believers themselves. I actually find myself supporting many values typically associated with an idealistic Christian outlook, particularly of the more traditional variety - but I must confess I have a basic problem on moral grounds with the notion that anyone must be tortured for any reason - especially on my account. And so on. But again, I'm quick to defend persons of high moral fiber and character whatever their personal religious beliefs, especially when we are confonted on all sides by an onslaught of relativistic, selfish and destructive alternatives.

Yes indeed, with many radiantly beautiful highways and byways. In fact, the sufis I have known do not consider themselves orthodox Mulsims at all; yet to preserve their lives and those of their families, they are usually scrupulous in their observance of the traditional Muslim forms.

Right; and it's true for other such sects within Islam as well such as the Bektashis. Hayyam is considered one although he probably was a humanist agnostic who found his way into the mystical as there was no such thing as being an "atheist" at the time. Like you said, quite a good number of the (mostly forced) converts into Islam were also along the Sufi-Bektashi line; such as those in the Balkans.

What a pleasure to discover another person with interest and erudition in this arena. While I am woefully remiss in my knowledge of things Balkan - with the notable exception of Bulgarian mezzo Vesselina Kasarova - I am fairly well acquainted with the Persian, Iberian and North African mystics. In fact, when I lived in Marbella on the southern Spanish coast, you could feel the currents all around you: the moorish influence upon the catholicism of that region is palpable, as I'm sure you well know.

At the risk of further deviating from the topic of this thread, I will mention three names that have meant much to me in this context: Muhyiddin Ibn al-'Arabi, Jalaluddin Rumi, and Muhammad Iqbal - all of whom, at least to me, are far more similar to Jacob Böhme, Friedrich Schleiermacher and G.W.F. Hegel than they are to any of the pillars of Islamic orthodoxy.

You scored as atheism.

You are... an atheist, though you probably already knew this. Also, you probably have several people praying daily for your soul. Instead of simply being "nonreligious," atheists strongly believe in the lack of existence of a higher being, or God.

atheism - 100%

Satanism - 96%

Paganism - 75%

Buddhism - 67
