Default Re : Zeus worshippers demand access to temple

In Afghanistant there was a village that believed in the Olimpic gods.
They still did ceremonys in a temple but the Talibans convert them to islam.
These people are forgotten greeks that Alexander had left behind.

I heard of this before. I saw it in a documentary regarding Alexander the Great's travels. This group left from Greece and did his travel by foot and they stopped by at most of the places he did. The tribe of forgotten Greeks was impressive.

In the third century BC there was a Greek kingdom in Afghanistan. It was called Bactria and it lasted for about one hundred years (300-200). After it vanished, it was replaced by the so-called Indo-Greek kingdom, on the territory of today Pakistan and part of India. It lasted almost 200 hundred years (until the year of Christ's birth).
These kingdoms were not results of "wandering Greeks", but of the conquests of Alexander the Great.

The Kushan was also a Indo-Greek civilation in Afghanistan/Pakistan.
Very important changes were made in Bouddhisme at that time.
Like the representing of the Bouddha. They made Gandhara art.
Mixing between Apollo and Buddha. They made the big Bouddhas that
the Talibans destroyed a few years ago.

Default Re: Greek pantheon worshipping in the middle east

In the Hellenistic world there were many local deities in the East, which camne into being as a result of fusion of a Greek god and some local, previously existing deity. Example: the Egyptian Serapis.
