The problem in my opinion, is that the presumption that any depression can be treated with a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, and inherently therefore that any depression is serotonin-related, is in fact erroneous, seeing as the claim that the serotonergic system is correlated with happiness with effective abundance/neuroreception level as factor, is only a theory, which I dont find there is enough evidence for.
Having tried a number of psychoactive compounds with dopaminergic-related effects myself, such as dopamine re-uptake inhibitors (the most prevalent being norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors), the mechanism of happiness can be directly induced through stimulating dopamine release and neuroreception, so one should consider the dopaminergic system at core, rather than the serotinergic. There isnt much doubt that some people actually need more serotonergic neuroreception, however, the odds are that they represent a minority of the numerous cases of depression, and that they likely have other symptoms than just depression. I've had this theory for a couple of years now, so I am interested to see more data on other massively prescribed "anti-depressant" selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and I am interested to see if this is the beginning of its demise, and if the medical world is starting to confirm my theory.

Modern psychiatry is a disaster.
It use to be limited to America, but unfortunately it has spread overseas to European soil. Psychiatrists tend to medicate you not to help you but to make you fit in to society. They use this medication to control us and keep us in this vegetable type of state I think. I highly recommend the following documentary about modern psychiatry. Here is the first part.

I BET the scientologists will grab this story to further proof their view that psychiatrists are evil for getting so many people dependant on such drugs which dont work...

Modern psychiatry is deplorable.
The very American practice of pumping people full off mind-numbing drugs, spending hours of 'therapy' in which patients are forced to look for sorces of their problems, mostly searching for traumas that may have never occured. Finally the person has convinced themselves that they're disordered and dysfunctional beyond help, ultimately resulting in them becoming even more dispondant, rather than 'recovering'. And so the cycle continues. |
