New findings show not only that marital conflict increases behavioral problems in children, but also that behavioral problems in children lead to increased marital conflict over time. Too, the researchers found that the effects of marital conflict vary across children within the same family. The study's findings were particularly marked in families with stepchildren. Consideration needs to be given to both how child behavior evokes parental responses and how parents' behavior evokes responses from children.
