Welcome to The European Ethnohistory Database. This is a rather unique look at Europe that traces the history of ethnic groups, their affinities, and languages. It has been compiled by Dr. Robert R. Sokal and his colleagues (see Published Papers) and has been used for the analysis of both genetic and linguistic variation in humans.

Great site Janez, thanks for the link.

Interestingly enough my Asiatic steppe-rider ancestors are on the list too.

Our Croatian brothers are going to love this one:

Kajkavic S {Prekomurje a border area between Q
A, H, YU on other side of Mur R
(from YU point of view).} *{51-94}*

For consistency with (51-94). Identified as Slovenian Kajkavic. Could these be Caucasians? From Slovenia.

Default Re: The European Ethnohistory Database

That is a great site, I'm doing searches for Malta in it. Regarding the Norman liberators:

Quote:
331 22 1090 # N Normans I Malta C

Saracen lands since 950 successfully conquered by Normans. Ref suggests from Normandy, but more likely they came from Sicily, conquered earlier.
They came from Sicily, there are practically no doubts about it. In Maltese history the idea has been pushed that they came from Normandy, but that only refers to their origins (and that is only an attempt to disassociate Malta from Sicilia/Italia). The Normans, like practically all of Malta's rulers and people came from Sicily. This is even true for the Saracens themselves.
