Nope. I do like Opeth (melodic death metal) and Dimmu Borgir (melodic black metal).

I don't listen to much metal anymore, but from that I list, I must say I used to listen to Mithotyn, the lead guy now has a band called Falconer, a bit different, but a great band.

Have you heard for folk-rock band Gåte from Norge?

Quote:
http://www.gaate.no
I found them very interesting.

Default Riferimento: Re: Viking Metal

I do like Viking Metal, but I've cut about from the pagan and satanic overtones in metal. As a Catholic I do not feel it appropriate when I listen to them, you can get carried away with the message. I do like the instrumental music though, if the lyrics were different it would be great.

Well I would naturally disagree with you there. Being Heathen the lyrics are very good.

You forgot ISENGARD!

I don't like the genre "viking". I preffer to call bandas like Moonsorrow, Menhir and Falkenbach as Heathen/Pagan Black Metal, or just Pagan Metal.

Wyrd is definitivaly a folk-ish melancholic black metal band.

And Windir has released one of the most wonderful masterpieces of music: the album "Arntor, Ein Windir".

There are many bands that are not of "viking" subjects but sounds great, like Temnozor, Volkolak, Butterfly Temple and Pagan Reign from Russia, Nokturnal Mortum from Ukraine (and that huge number of black metal bands with pagan themes from the slavlands), Vento Negro from Brazil, etc.
