Default The Moral Matrix

Political ideas are often expressed using the right-left model*. While simple, this model does not fully capture the fullness of political opinions.

For instance, you may be feeling on the left or certain social issues but on the right on economical ones so where are you?

The Moral Matrix addresses this problem. Instead of a single left-right dimension, our Matrix has two dimensions that combine to create four quadrants, or Political Systems.

By taking the test you will know where you stand on the Matrix, which Political System fits you best, and which Political Ideology you most closely match.

Default Re: The Moral Matrix

I admit I'm fascinated by this quiz. The first time I went through it I answered quickly, based on my real life experiences of compromise and disillusionment with things-as-they-are.

This time, I responded based on my ideal view of society - how things should be, rather than how they are in reality. My results were quite different.

First quiz result:

You scored 3 on the Moral Order axis and 0.5 on the Moral Rules axis.

The following items best match your score:
-System: Authoritarianism
-Variation: Moderate Authoritarianism
-Ideologies: Social Republicanism

Second quiz result:

You scored 2 on the Moral Order axis and 6 on the Moral Rules axis.

The following items best match your score:
-System: Authoritarianism
-Variation: Economic Authoritarianism
-Ideologies: National Socialism

Obviously, the biggest difference between the two results is in the Moral Rules arena, which the quiz creator describes as follows:

Quote:
The Moral Rules dimension defines your view of the world's rules. It measures which actions you believe individuals should be rewarded for in society. It defines whether you believe that society should primarily reward actions that benefit society as a whole first (and individual members eventually) or reward actions that benefits each member first (and society eventually). People on the top of the Moral Matrix believe that society and each of its members benefit the most if the priority is given to collective initiatives. People on the bottom of the Moral Matrix believe that society and each of its members benefit the most if the priority is given to individual initiatives.
So, in my real world, practical view (first result), I'm more concerned about protecting individual freedoms - since the surrounding society is so hostile to the views I cherish. In my idealistic view (second result), I'm concerned much more about the community as a whole - since I am positing one that is healthy, that looks looks after its members responsibly, and that acts as a unified folkish unit.

Interesting stuff.

These were my results for the short test:

Quote:
Your scored 2 on the Moral Order axis and -2 on the Moral Rules axis.

The following items best match your score:
  1. System: Conservatism
  2. Variation: Moderate Conservatism
  3. Ideologies: Capital Republicanism
And these for the long one:

Quote:
Your scored 1.5 on the Moral Order axis and -0.5 on the Moral Rules axis.

The following items best match your score:
  1. System: Conservatism
  2. Variation: Moderate Conservatism
  3. Ideologies: Capital Republicanism
Quote:
Moderate Conservatism is the variation of Conservatism that balances Conformance and Independence.
People in this category will tend to have balanced opinions about enforcing the moral order (religious conformance, strict family values, lesser freedom of expression, stricter laws...) and about favoring individual initiatives (lower taxes, less corporate and environmental regulations, ...).
Even when this description is too short, i guess it's in accordance with my views, at least in general terms.

Politically, i am in favour of a restricted democracy --as opposed to universal suffrage-- in which only certain sectors of society (ideally, the most acquainted and better educated) shall be allowed to have full political rights.

To make it short, my ideal system might be described as a "Meritocracy" in which, the more hard-working you are and the more initiative you show --as individuals or a group of indivuals-- towards the improvement of your community then the more freedom you will have in your life; and as a consequence, the ones that do not make much efforts or contribute little to nothing to the community will run the risk of having their liberties restricted (see above) and their standard of living could end up being rather low.

Distribution for Argentina
The chart on the right shows the distribution for all respondents for that country only. For a list of all countries, see below. Of the 27 respondents:
  1. 48.15% preferred Socialism.
  2. 11.11% preferred Authoritarianism.
  3. 7.41% preferred Conservatism.
  4. 25.93% preferred Liberalism.
  5. 7.41% straddled multiple political systems.
Average
The average score (red bar) was in the Social Democratism ideology(ies).
  1. Moral Order: -1.48
  2. Moral Rules: 0.56
Most Popular
The most popular short test score (green bar) was in the Capital Democratism ideology(ies).
  1. Moral Order: -2
  2. Moral Rules: -2
The most popular long test score (grey bar) was in the Capital Republicanism ideology(ies).
  1. Moral Order: 3
  2. Moral Rules: -4
Seems like a very realistic distribution.

The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth.
For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish.

Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation.
