While I disapprove the American policy towards not only Serbia but our region as a whole, I see this sentence as something utterly ignorant and arrogant.

...Slobodan Milošević was and still is a symbol of the struggle for freedom of the Serbian people.

If this is the case, then I feel sorry for those people who see him this way.

Slobodan Milošević was and still is a symbol of the struggle for freedom of the Serbian people.

That's what his followers want people to believe. Milosevic is really a symbol of the archetypal politician. He only though about his own rule and not about the Serbian people.
