Police Seize Rocket Launchers In Tense Kosovo Town - AFP
PRISTINA (AFP)--Two rocket launchers have been siezed from a house in the tense, ethnically divided northern Kosovo town of Mitrovica, police said Wednesday.
The 64mm rocket launchers were discovered during a search in the Albanian- majority southern part of the town, which is separated from the mainly Serb north by the Ibar River.
A special unit of the NATO-led peacekeeping Kosovo Force (KFOR) "was called to the scene and confiscated the illegal weapons," the police said in a statement.
"The search was completed without any incident, while the suspect wasn't at home," it added.
The town, where 20,000 Serbs live in the north and 80,000 Albanians in the south, symbolises the ethnic tensions of Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia Feb. 17.
