All smiles now, but there's serious work ahead for Turkey and the EU

German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday. After the meeting, Schröder said Turkey had "clear prospects" for eventual entry into the EU.

Interesting to think that although not all of those 2.5 Million Turks are electors, time enough has went on by to allow their children to vote.

Assuming that there are more Turkish men than women living in Germany, let's imagine 2 Million Turkish Men, and also that fronm those 2 Million only one had, say two children: it gives an ammount of at least 2 Million votes against the German interest.

It reminds me of ehat happened in Belgium some years back: fearing the rise of the far-right, the government decided to give the right to vote to immigrants that had been living in the territory for more than two years.

You are absolutly true. And that number will grow and grow, becouse of their birth rate.Turks are a very very great problem for european civilization at all.
Their culture and their quantity will destroy Europe both culturaly and geneticaly.Today you speak about turks living outside turkey, who alrady present a threat for Europeans, after joining Turkey to EU,wait for new emigrants at least from other turanic countries.Turkey in EU will become a big open door for Middle Asia.

Some find this borderless Europe an appealing idea, as it gives them more freedom to stroll around. The EU isn't homogenous culturally speaking, spiritually speaking, not to mention racially or ethnically speaking. Europe is threatened with becoming a melting pot by the day. Adding Turkey to all this would not bring anything better.

It would be a further expansion on an imported, cheap & exploitable labour force to the fold, cheap labour is a valuable resource for High Profit oriented Industrialists in this day & age.

Exactly. That also explained the big number of immigrants from ex-communist countries in Eastern Europe looking for work in the West.

Not to mention policy that is shaped entirely to attract the desired imports on the grounds of economic interests rather then proper reform of the current mismanagement of the native labour force.

That's why Bush supports so much Turkey's entrance in the EU. USA's goal has always been to make Europe become a new melting-pot.

Default Re: Schröder Focuses on EU in Turkey

The German conservative party under Merkel and Stoiber will try to stop the full membership of Turkey if they win the elections in 2006. They like the plan of a "premium partnership", but not a full membership in the EU.
Her biggest ally in this is the French minister Sarcozy. Other than Chirac, he is against a Full membership of Turkey.

Representative inquieres say that 85% of French people and 65% of German people are actually AGAINST a full membership of Turkey in the EU!

But Red-green under Schroeder is is crouching into Erdogan´s ass...i hate this, they do this because of the million Turks in Germany.

Kommdu saell!!!

This is really a thing that revolts me: first they preach the celestial wonders of democracy, rule of the people, freedom of speech, etc.- but when it comes to actually decide on something important, the people ends up being betrayed by the #@*» politicians. Can we do something to change this?
