EU far-right bloc faces collapse

The European parliament's far-right bloc faces collapse after Romanian MEPs said they would quit over an Italian colleague's "xenophobic" remarks.


Remarks by Ms Mussolini angered the Romanian delegation

Italian MEP Alessandra Mussolini, the grand-daughter of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, reportedly described Romanians as "habitual law-breakers".
Five Romanian MEPs have threatened to quit over the "sacrilegious" remarks.
Italy recently expelled dozens of Romanian migrants suspected of criminal offences, following a murder in Rome.
The Romanian MEPs' move would take the far-right bloc's membership below the minimum required for a grouping in the parliament.

The Identity, Tradition and Sovereignty (ITS) grouping was created in January, after the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU boosted the number of far-right MEPs in the European parliament.

Expulsion decree
A statement from the Greater Romania party MEPs, circulated by e-mail in the European parliament, said the party could have no further dealings with Ms Mussolini.
The party's MEPs accused Ms Mussolini of insulting Romanians, citing a newspaper interview she had given in which she said "breaking the law has become a way of life for Romanians".


The ITS group united far-right MEPs from across Europe

The newspaper also quoted Ms Mussolini as saying Italians saw little difference between Romanian immigrants and Roma (Gypsies).
The Greater Romania party has itself campaigned on a fiercely nationalistic, anti-Roma platform.
The expulsions followed an outcry over the murder of an Italian woman, blamed on a Roma migrant from Romania.
The decree authorising the expulsions prompted concerns in Bucharest that Romanian expatriates would be unfairly targeted.

'Good news'
The European parliament only grants official status to political groups that can claim a minimum of 20 members from at least six countries.
The withdrawal of five Romanian MEPs, from the country's Greater Romania party, would leave the ITS with only 18 members, effectively disqualifying it as an official group.
The main groups in the European parliament have largely refused to co-operate with the ITS.
Martin Schulz, the leader of the parliament's Socialist bloc, told Reuters news agency the group's demise would be "very good for Europe".
And the head of the Liberal grouping, Graham Watson, told the agency the ITS had become "a casualty" of its own xenophobic philosophy.

Alessandra is the nephew.


Alesandra doesn't know that the romanians our pc newspapers talk hypocritically of are actually gypsies: a few white romanians are criminal too, but the bulk of romanian crime is roma crime.


Alesandra is a nice girl but her knowledge of politics was very limited when she was chosen because of her surname as a front-runner for the neo-fascist Movimento Sociale (then our NPD).

She had been a socialist until then .. and a nobody in politics.

Yes. As long as the Parliament exists and has the power it does then it is important. This particular feud involving Alessandra Mussolini is another matter.

Maybe it is because of the similarity between words Roma and Romanian that people tend to confound these two ethnicities.

These two names are totally etymologically unrelated to each other though.

But I wonder if the Romanian nationalist party has ever called for a repatriation of their fellow countrymen migrants.

My hometown is literally plagued with Romanians, and I can assure you that it is not something that makes me any happy.

Yes, it is the same root. Like the Romany language (Romani čhib). It comes ultimately from the word rom, which in the Gypsy language simply means "man".

It appears so, and it may have destroyed the coalition. What a terrible lack of tact and wisdom; one hopes that cooler heads will prevail and someone will step in to clean up the mess she has made, lest ITS collapse and Communists like Schulz wallow in delight.

Alessandra has too much of a feminist streak in her anyway. This leads her to say stupid things and do stupid things. And she obviously can't distinguish between actual Romanians and Roma gypsies.

Romanian nationalists parties should better take cover and start differentiating real romanians from gypsies.

I have known not one but two romanian women who vote for the Lega Nord (yes) and they have stated with force that romanian criminals are mostly roma.

In fact, the so called Romanian party in italy was founded by gypsies, and real romanians wrote angry comments to independent blogs about this (newspapers censor regularly any non pc letter, we have first hand experience ...)

In my mother house she had two immigrants working seriously: two romanian engineers (whatever engineer means there).

Both hardworking, educated and shy to the point of stuttering when asked questions about their country.

Once, other white romanias, who were anyway working, made disparagingly comments for italians in front of me.


At least they were working.

For sure they were not grateful to the country that was giving them a decent work, I couldn't retort since we were in a formal environment.

So far this has been my little experience with romanian, non roma people.

As of crime, newspapers regularly speak of romanian (or slav), people committing crime, but in many, many cases they turn out to be albanians or gypsies.

It is also true that some gypsies of less dark phenotype will hide their origins.

Many mingle with common romanians.

A Romanian party here has not been started by Gypsies, but by Romanians. Actually, financed by one well-off Romanian politician and owner of a football team in Romania.

I've heared of an entire village in Romania that has been depleted and the population migrated here.

By the way, I believe that there is one Romanian who is a NPD official in Germany.
