It's quite strange, I see lots of pictures of White-looking (even sometimes Nordic-looking) Berbers on the Web, but when I see them in the streets, they are always darker and swarthier. I just know a girl with 25% of Berber blood who looks almost Nordic (blonde, blue eyes, ...) but the others look like classical Arabs.

It's not strange. Typical Berber looks (as in modern days Berbers) are not ancient Berber looks.

There is a strong Sub-Saharan ("Negro") admixture, and some degree of Semitic admixture too. By the way, what you call "Arab looks" is more often the result of Sub-Saharan admixture than Semitic admixture. Not really Arabic.

"Nordic" looks, as in blue eyes or blondism, may well be (most probably) the remnants of the Germanic Vandals.

So neither "Negro" nor "Nordic" are original to the Imazighen.

As a side note, it has been found a close genetic relationship in the (more semiticized) population of Egypt and the Amazigh peoples. This, of course, means that the Imazighen extended in ancient times throughout Northern Africa, from Egypt to the Canary Islands. And in fact, the process by which the Guanche mummies in the Canary Islands were mummified was similar to that of archaic Egypt.

Which, of course, points to the Imazighen as the most probable candidates to being the original race of the ancient Egyptians. So much for Nordocentrists and Negrocentrists.

Indeed. And going by hair and eye pigmentation, many gypsies also are Nordish. There are many blonde or blonde-red haired gypsy children and I'm not talking about bleached hair (even though most of them do bleach their hair directly with oxygen water when they're older) Bleached hair is actually -usually- very easy to detect unless it was a very professional job.

Now that you say it.. YES, YUCK!

There are many blonde or blonde-red haired gypsy children.

Right. There are a number of a dirty-ash blond, and red more or less like that of the Berber girl in the picture.

I thought Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon couldn't have children together? So how could a red-hair gene from the Neanderthals go to the Cro-Magnon then?

Wasn't the whole Neanderthal origins theory proved false sometime ago and that it was established that modern humans have no Neanderthal ancestry? I'm not sure about the latest updates on it, though.

I think that it was that scientist (or some other) who then said that his words had been misinterpreted.

No Neanderthal genes have been found on modern human populations so far. In an archeological finding in Portugal it was found the remains of a young specimen of Sapiens and Neanderthal.

That doesn't mean that that specimen could have bred. However it is the only case found.

The "red head gene" is actually a modern man (homo sapiens sapiens) trait while blondism (blue eyes and blond hair) is a neanderthal trait which modern humans also have.
The biochemistry of red hair appears to be associated with the melanocortin-1 receptor while the red colour itself is produced by an iron compound. The recessive gene which gives people red hair, fair skin and freckles is certainly older than 50,000 years, and it could be as old as 100,000 years. All red heads are MC1R variants, and the prevalence of these alleles is highest in Celtic Countries.
For some time the anthropologists and archeologists thought that the neanderthals were very swarthy humanoids while modern studies indicate that european-living neanderthals should have been blonde and blue eyed since the climate would favour such types.
Also, in cases of severe malnutrition, normally dark human hair may turn red or blond. The condition, known as kwashiorkor, is a sign of critical starvation caused by protein deficiency, and is common during periods of famine.

Let me get home and I'll post the names of the books. Also, don't think that i'm stating that blondism was inherited by sapiens sapiens from a neanderthal source, I said that both Neanderthals and Modern humans had blondism.
