A picture of contrasts.

I believe that it will serve you well for any purposes of debunking any accounts on the brigadists:

ROFL! Those are not the Nationals. Those are Italian Fascists volunteers from the CTV entering Santander. Great one!

The defense of Santander (Cantabria) had been left by the Republic to the Lehendakari (President of the Basque Government) Aguirre and the Euskadi Buru Batzar (Basque Government).

Even before the National troops were any near, Aguirre and the PNV (Basque Nationalist Party) were in talks with The Vatican and with Rome to save their arses. But they didn't move a finger when their allied Socialists and Anarchists slaughtered Catholic Basques who were not independentists. You will usually read "they couldn't help it".

The new created myth of the Gudari (Basque warrior) fell down into pieces when the Eusko Gudarostea (Basque army) surrendered without fight no less than... to the Italians!!!

They were a shame. The good Basques, the brave Basques were those fighting in the Tercios of the Requeté, with the National side, for God and for Spain.

Oh well, it was not my intention to forget the valuable help of the Italian volunteers, what I did was quoting the description of the Wikipedia entry from which I took the picture. Most probably the one who wrote it focused more on the whole story of the battle of Santander itself and ignored that the people in that picture were indeed wearing uniforms of the Corpo Truppe Volontarie. Anyway, for accurateness sake, we could just substitute "Nationalist" for "Francoist" so everyone might be happy with it.
