Greece assumes tactical control of the Romanian & Bulgarian airspace

May 1st, 2007
According to the Greek defense Journal “Hellenic Defense & Security” along with NATO press releases; Greece assumes the tactical control of the air space of Romania and Bulgaria.

More specifically in order for both Bulgaria and Romania to integrate easier in the NATO defense framework, the Greek Head of the NATO Command in Larisa -Central Greece- will be responsible from now on for the tactical control of the air space. Over the coming days 4 Greek officers are been tranferred to Bucharest and Sofia in order to act as liaisons between Greece and the respective states. It is estimated that they are going to reside there for a period of two years minimum.
Also Romanian and Bulgaria air control operators are going to be trained in Greece over the coming months and become accustomed in the NATO standards and procedures. They are going to participate also in joint exercises with the Greek military authorities.
