The traditions of the Irish people are the oldest of any race in Europe north and west of the Alps, and they themselves are the longest settled on their own soil - Edmund Curtis (A History of Ireland: From Earliest Times to 1922) The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth. For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish. - Edmund Spenser (writer, and British Government Official in Ireland, AD 1596). The renaissance began in Ireland seven hundred years before it was known in Italy. And Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, was at one time the metropolis of civilisation. - Arsene Darmesteter, Professor of Old French and Literature Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation. - Heinrich Zimmer, Professor of Celtic and Sanskrit, Member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences |

At this point getting him and 200 others would have saved millions. Such thought are "politically incorrect" now, but at this time, before this whole gay tolerance, individual rights and "save sex is good no matter with whom and why" came up, many people thought about strict measures. Times changed and everything is getting much worse since the 1990's...

ZYklop: I think the problem is that the disease is spreading to people who are completely innocent. Why? Blood transfusions, for example, which have been donated by HIV infected people who nevertheless are not examined and by junkies who sting innocent people with infected needles.
My answer would be to put them all together lined against a wall and shoot them. It's a damn plague, and it cannot be stopped unless it is contained.

Anyway, infected should be at least branded, maybe on an intime area of the body, but so that they can't spread the disease to more people without telling someone the truth. If the situation would be more severe, tests could be made by the state and if necessary with force.

Johannes: yes, quarantine seems to be the best solution to the problem, the thing is, it's, according to "some", un-ethical and agains't their "rights". TO me, the moment they contract the disease and are willingfully spreading it they now longer have rights but the right to live, and even so submitted to certain conditions.

A while ago there was reports that homosexuals were deliberately trying to contract HIV because to have it was "Gay Chic". Lunacy. Of course, we don't have to spend billions on AIDS research while millions of people continue to die. We already have the answer and it's completely free. Living in monogamous relationships. Eliminate promiscuity. I know many people in the modern world would be horrified by that suggestion but really AIDS and other STD could be theoretically eliminated in a single generation (not to mention reduce several other problems in addition). I think that would be a nice gift to give our children and future descendents, but perhaps some people might disgree with me. I think it's a worthwhile sacrifice though.

I agree, they should have been gathered and kept away from the healthy population, for the good of the community. More than 20 years ago, a french "PI" politician had declared that those peoples should be put in quarantine, he had proposed to open what is called "sidatoriums" (after french word sida -aids- and sanatorium), but nobody payed attention to sida at that time and "sidatoriums" were highly criticized by the "tolerance party". "Ironicaly", what had been seen at that time as an "inhuman solution" was created 10 years later, and "sidatoriums" are now a reality in France... but much too late. It could be done yet imo, but with a real vonlunteer politics, not late measure.

I think this "man" should be immediately shot. If not, may I suggest torturing him to death? He would deserve that.
He knew he was infected, right? |
