| Literature Literature is literally an acquaintance with letters. The term has, however, generally come to identify a collection of texts. The word literature, as a common noun, can refer to any form of writing, such as essays; while Literature, the proper noun, refers to a whole body of literary work. |

I have read practically everything by Nietzsche (yet only once)-and must say that he is one of my favourite authors. (One of the cool things about being a German native speaker is that you can read such cool authors like Nietzsche or Heidegger in their original).
IMO, Nietzsche was in fact one of the last genuine European mystics. This may sound a bit strange since he adamantly opposed all religion and espically Xtianity in its decrepit 19th century bourgeois form...- but if one looks at his poetical rapture, his enthusiam, the conclusions he draws and especially his method then it becomes clear that he merely brought "metaphysics" down to earth only so to elevate an ideal (of man) and a quasi-ideal of himself to some form of god. That this didnt always work is clear but one learns so incredibly much from watching him do this! And how one can watch: He changes his opinions often, is the tragedy and the comedy of "modern man"- is an "experimental thinker" who sometimes doesnt know his results when beginning a line of thought but follows it through with self-defying consequence and indisputable logic to its end; moreover hes a great poet (e.g. Thus spake Zarathustra is one of the best prose poems I know). In fact Nietzsche is -IMO- the philosopher who has had the most influence on todays world (and is used by ppl of by all couleurs) just as Heidegger is the most influential philosopher of the 20th century. |
