| Literature Literature is literally an acquaintance with letters. The term has, however, generally come to identify a collection of texts. The word literature, as a common noun, can refer to any form of writing, such as essays; while Literature, the proper noun, refers to a whole body of literary work. |

"Let no man write my epitaph; for as no man who knows my motives dares not vindicate them, let no prejudice or ignorance asperse them... When my country takes her place among the nations of the earth, then, and not till then, let my epitaph be written."- Robert Emmet
“If you remove the English Army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle., unless you set about the organization of the Socialist Republic your efforts will be in vain. England will still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through her financiers, through the whole array of commercial and individualist institutions she has planted in this country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs”. - James Connolly, from Socialism and Nationalism in Shan Van Vocht, January 1897 "Only the Irish working class remains as the incorruptible inheritors of the fight for freedom in Ireland." - James Connolly, from Labour in Irish History, July 1910 "Yes, ruling by fooling, is a great British art with great Irish fools to practice on." - James Connolly From The Irish Worker, September 1914 |
