The Irish are one of the most ancient nations that I know of at this end of the world, and are from as mighty a race as the world ever brought forth.
For it is certain that Ireland hath had the use of letters very anciently and long before England; that they had letters anciently is nothing doubtful, for the Saxons of England are said to have their letters and learning, and learned men, from the Irish.
- Edmund Spenser (writer, and British Government Official in Ireland, AD 1596).

The renaissance began in Ireland seven hundred years before it was known in Italy. And Armagh, the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, was at one time the metropolis of civilisation.
- Arsene Darmesteter, Professor of Old French and Literature

Ireland can indeed lay claim to a great past; she can not only boast of having been the birthplace and abode of high culture in the fifth and sixth centuries . . . but also of having made strenous efforts in the seventh and up to the tenth century to spread her learning among the German and Romance peoples, thus forming the actual fountain of our present continental civilisation.

Now that you are out of my life,
I'm so much better,
You thought that I'd be weak without ya,
But I'm stronger,
You thought that I'd be broke without ya,
But I'm richer,
You thought that I'd be sad without ya,
I laugh harder,
You thought I wouldn't grow without ya,
Now I'm wiser,
You thought that I'd be helpless without ya,
But I'm smarter,
You thought that I'd be stressed without ya,
But I'm chillin'
You thought I wouldn't sell without ya,
Sold nine [nah, 6] million.

I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),

I'm sure if they sold VIP tickets to his funeral and made some tasteful commemorative mugs, t-shirts and keyrings, they could squeeze an extra few shekels out of him for old times sake.

What a loss!
In order to erase the tears, I opened yesterday a bottle of Pinot Noir from Wallis.
He will be remembered as a great criminal that in his moments of peace used to blackmail families for money! This man has performed witch hunting of the worst kind and I will turn my head away when his kind finally finds the justice that deserves!

His work is continued by the US-based centre that bears his name, which campaigns against anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance.

The BBC's Lucy Williamson, at the ceremony on Friday, says older people in Israel are concerned that many young people in their country do not know who Mr Wiesenthal was or what he did.

Other than those with personal links, people feel he was always better known in Europe than in Israel, she said. Many hope his burial in Israel will help spread his legacy.
Paradoxal, isn't it? How is it the Holocaust is more teached/known in Europe among gentiles, than in Israel among the jewish victims? How bizarre... I take it as a full confession.

Quote:
One older woman attending the funeral said his work had "given the Jewish people back their dignity".
Ah, she means reparation.
