AW: Israel Angry at Pope Over Terror Comments
Some Jewish points of view and reactions were to be expected... (click on the links for full articles)

It is unfortunate that the Vatican, legitimately seen by millions as a moral arbiter and source of spiritual guidance, would imply that terrorism against Israelis is less condemnable than terrorism against other nations. It is even worse for the Holy See to belligerently legitimize what might have been considered an inadvertent oversight.

If the Vatican sees terrorism as a legitimate tool in the Palestinian struggle against Israel, as the Arab world does when it calls terrorism against Israel "resistance," perhaps the pope should say so. If so, he will have to explain why terrorism against Israel is legitimate while terror against England, Turkey, Egypt and Iraq is not.

Even more interesting...

The failure of the Pope to condemn terror in Israel and the Vatican's attempt to single out Jewish state for attack are guided by traditional Christian anti-Semitism

It seems, then, that the pope is happy to condemn terrorism against Britons, Turks, Egyptians and Iraqis, but the blood of the Israeli people is viewed cheaply in Rome.

It is the precisely the theology of the Catholic Church, which still holds the Jewish people responsible for the "murder" of the Christian deity, that renders it incapable of condemning the slaughter of Israeli civilians.
This theology, which is directly responsible for 1,700 years of murderous anti-Semitism, is what causes the Vatican today to trip over itself in fumbling attempts to explain its double standards when it comes to Israel and her struggle against terrorism.
The institution that, for nearly for two millennia, has charged the Jewish nation with collective guilt for the killing of its god, can’t unconditionally denounce terrorism against the Jewish state, but can take a stand against the jihad on all other nations. Is this a mere coincidence?
It may not be diplomatic to say so, but it is time to confront the fact that the Vatican’s recent behavior stems from none other than traditional Christian anti-Semitism.

Ancient prejudice guides Vatican - article from Ynetnews
Quote:
One can't completely fault Pope Benedict XVI. His Eminence is simply continuing the policies of most of those who inhabited the Papal chair in the past. All we need to do is look back into the history of the Vatican throughout the past generations in order to understand that nothing has changed. The 'hate the Jew' credo hasn't lost any of its past luster, though camouflage is a current tactic being employed without total success. The Crusaders may no longer gallop through Europe's towns, brandishing their bloody swords and slaughtering every innocent Jew they encountered or sought out. And perhaps the Inquisition has long ago abandoned the infamous Auto-de-Fe system of dispatching their helpless, Jewish victims. Perhaps. But the death of Jesus will forever be pinned on the Jewish lapel and the Jew will never be allowed to forget who, per Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular, is 'guilty' of crucifying him.
The almost total silence the Vatican evoked during the Holocaust is but a reminder that the anti-Jewish hate continues to fester and boil. It is for that reason that the recent movie The Passion was so highly acclaimed by the Catholic Church and every other segment of the 'Religion of Love', as depicting the true facts. And the beatification of specific anti-Semitic priests and nuns are a standard issue in the hallowed chambers of those who refuse to condemn the mass murder of Jews. And, then again, a Pope who joined and participated in the Nazi Hitler Youth can't be expected to completely discard and forget all he absorbed in that religious order, can he? Why are Jews always so unfair? Why can't they simply understand and behave accordingly? Welcome to reality!
