Foreign Ministry submits Holocaust education bill to UNESCO

More than 60 years after the Holocaust, the Foreign Ministry is working to keep the Nazi genocide at the forefront of international consciousness.

The ministry submitted a resolution to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization this week calling for the creation of a UNESCO-sponsored curriculum to teach students around the world about the Holocaust and its role in history.

The Holocaust Remembrance resolution, proposed by the ministry's Division of International Organizations, aims to preserve the memory of the Holocaust while preventing its denial.

"There's a need for UNESCO, as the main organ of education at the United Nations, to be active in commemorating the Holocaust," said division head Orli Gil. "It's not just about memorials and ceremonies. [UNESCO] will take it further, to schools and research institutions around the world."

UNESCO will vote on the draft resolution at its 34th General Conference, which started Tuesday and runs through November 3.

According to the ministry, 70 countries from every continent, including one Arab state, support the bill.

"Despite the advent of a new Holocaust denier, in the form of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the ministry has registered a unique diplomatic achievement prior to the opening of the UNESCO General Conference expected to adopt the resolution," the ministry said in a statement.

Gil said the ministry expected the initiative to be ratified by the end of the month.

The Holocaust Remembrance resolution is part of an ongoing campaign by the ministry to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive through association with the UN and its multilateral institutions.

In 2005, the UN established International Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. In 2006, the international body passed a resolution condemning Holocaust denial.

"With time, the living witnesses to the Holocaust will disappear, and we need to have a very strong notion of the Holocaust, especially among the different nations who do not know much about it," Gil said. "We wish to have Holocaust awareness as widespread as possible."

Part of me welcomes this kind of thing. Maybe if it becomes mandatory to carry a Certificate of Holocaust Education at all times, or it becomes illegal to even get a fishing licence without proof of anti-Holocaust training, then people will finally say "Enough!".

In fact, I posted this quote as a corroboration of thesis that the official narrative of the Holocaust serves as one of the ideological cornerstones of the modern, post-World-War-Two, politico-military-ideological world order (especially that of the "West"), in fact, its founding narrative.

It is important to point out though that the official Holocaust narrative only got going more than a generation after the war ended. In other words when the 68er generation were able to publish books, make documentaries and so on. There was at least a thirty year pause by the Holocaust propaganda machine after the Nuremberg Trials wrapped up.

Just a quick look at this Wikipedia listing of Holocaust films gives one an idea of how the official version of the Holocaust took time to get rolling:

Not surprising this, with the proto-globalist UN having risen from the truimphialism of the 2nd World War. The holocaust mythology rests at the very centre of their legitamcy in the same sense that the acts of some of its founders - say the estimated 4 million that perished in Vietnam - isn't.

I would've thought "Vietnam War education" would be immeasurably more uselful not only in a moral sense but in a tactical sense, in light of the Iraqi debacle..

That's right, and if the public and media of the Anglosphere spent one quarter of the time it spends talking about ex-Communists as it does Nazi-hunting maybe the Bush/Blair foreign policy nightmare would never have happened.

The US Civil War with its British Israelism is an interesting study. It appears the primary purpose of such accusations* is their being a means of social control, perhaps to a certain extent somewhat unconscious, so as to maintain control of one's own by way of contrived terror.** In the case of the US this control by terror would be aimed at the Union troops fighting at the front, and then of the general US population. It also serves to supress the declared enemy, in this case the Southerners, by way of demonization.

There is also something of a self fulfilling prophecy in these things it seems, again, perhaps somewhat unconscious...so as to artificially create a moral cause for the war? The Southerners repeatedly and sincerely attempted to relieve the prisoners suffering by working out an arrangement of some type with the US to no avail, even allowing for a delegation of prisoners to travel to Washington in 1864, where they were more or less told to get lost. By mid-1864, the South was already largely in a state of military collapse, and Sherman with a massive army could to a large degree go where he wanted. A rescue force (farce?) was put together of 5000 cavalry, just large enough it would seem to get itself in trouble, and sure enough, the force somehow managed to get itself defeated and its general captured, large numbers of the 'rescue force' themselves winding up in Andersonville.

Many amongst the Southerners, not to mention some amongst the rather bitter prisoners themselves, concluded the US appeared to want the prisoners to die...for some reason.

And where do such acusations spring from? Perhaps it has something to do with a mindset of absolute rightness of cause and no concept of agreeing to disagree with others (not very healthy)... compounded by error (of the US, too many promoting the war somehow thinking they were Jewish, BI, amongst others)...and what might be unconsciously realized to be a dubious moral cause and a need to shore up that cause, with something (the US troops fighting to spread a lucrative, but quite socially destructive variant of slavery known as 'cheap labor', against the Southerners already ghastly system of chattel).

A bit of an aside, but one might notice the prominance of the UN and its organization UNESCO in the thread's lead article. The establishment of an international parliament type organization had been a long term aim of the UK, probably more than anything else to be in reality something along the lines of an administrative body for the British Empire. Note too the prominance of the United States in the League's founding. The League of Nations would become the United Nations in 1945-46.

The United States and United Kingdom have been in a 'special relationship', a relationship only just short of an outright political union, since about 1900.

The League held its first meeting in London on 10 January 1920. Its first action was to ratify the Treaty of Versailles, officially ending World War I.
