Orthodox Jews break into Nazi death camp

A group of Orthodox Jews from Israel have broken in to the former Nazi extermination camp of Majdanek in eastern Poland, police say.

Security guards at the camp, now a museum, called the management and the police when the 33 Orthodox Jews penetrated the camp after the end of visiting hours.
"They forced open two gates that lead to the army barracks of the former Nazi camp," Lublin police spokeswoman Anna Smazak said.

She says that the matter had been sorted out amicably after contact was established with the Israeli embassy in Warsaw.

"The head of the group, a man of 28, said that all the damage would be reimbursed," the police spokeswoman said.

The group's motive for trying to gain access to Majdanek was not immediately clear.
At the Majdanek death camp, set up by the Nazis near the eastern Polish city of Lublin, 360,000 people died between 1941 and 1944, either in the gas chamber or at the hands of firing squads.

Among the camp's victims were 200,000 Jews, 120,000 non-Jewish Poles and Soviet prisoners of war.

11. these israelis were reacting to the horror
of this camp in poland where jews were tortured and killed.

it was a reaction from the inner most part of their jewish being-- avenging the blood of the holocaust victims.

i think these orthodox israelis were beautiful in their action--not ugly.

how can their be a right or wrong way for a jew to act when visiting a concentration camp?

You might be on to something there. In all their years of talking they may have developed some crazy buried treasure theory. Who knows?

Or they might have hoped to count as survivors eligible for compensation by spending the night there.

The problem is that more than a few mental health professionals are Jewish themselves. Freud is supposed to have said the Irish are a people immune to psychoanalysis so perhaps the Israelis should be counselled by exclusively by Irishmen. I have lots of ideas and suggestions myself.

They're Orthodox Jews, and something tells me they're investigating the camp's nuts and bolts, which leads me to believe they don't buy into the Big H story. I wonder if they're Neuterei Karta people...

But Heaven forbid that should get into the papers: Jews not believing in the Holocaust! What next? George W. Bush leading the anti-war movement?
