It is a peaceful resting place for 350,000 souls - an historic graveyard which now serves as a nature reserve.


But plans are afoot to dig up the ancient graves at Tower Hamlets Cemetery - and reopen it as a 21st century burial site.

Officially it would be known as a "multi-faith" cemetery but it is likely that it would principally answer calls for a Muslim graveyard in the largely-Asian East London borough.

If such a proposal was made for a historic Muslim graveyard, you would have the entire Muslim community around the world crying desecration and calling for jihad.

Nooo. This is totally wrong. I don't see why they have to be so disrespectful... why can't they just buy a bit of land in the country? (still not really appealing but better than desecrating an existing graveyard/naturereserve)

I am astonished that London authorities allow it. I mean, it is a kind of historical monument.

And now they want the place of our deads. It's one step further into the substitution population processes. It shows #1 how impures we are for Muslims, even in death ; #2 how one wants to eradicate the traces left of us to the most little piece of bone.

I "like" the symbolism of this: no more heritage, no more history, a virgin land to conquer for new comers.

Cemeteries are sacred places, digging up the remains of forefathers to replace them by peoples of differents origin and religion is a desecration and a sign of total submission. Something is really really wrong down here.

Not only is this a disgrace to dig up these graves, but it looks like a lovely heritage and nature site. I hope the local people will kick up a storm over this. Here's to hoping...

Apparently the graves of 350,000 native inhabitants who happen to be of the Christian faith are have neglible value. How revolting. Also revolting would be the lack of outrage. It is this silence that is the funeral bell of Europe. Peope are too preoccupied with materialism/ hedonism. It is our educational systems, big businesses, and media that nurture this modernity. What were to occur if the 350,000 bodies were Muslim? It questions the possibility of victory for the native culture and people of Europe.
